I started my climbing career in 2006 and climbed with Noel at a competition in Portland. I was pretty clueless and Noel was advanced and impressive even then. He’s put the time in and he’s clearly one of the best.

He really is one of the best climbers in the PNW

They had us do similar in a line clearance certification course I completed. So cool to see how other people climb and the techniques and gear that can be used!

audibles for the lanyard seems excessive
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
It was excessive and the judges misinterpreted the criteria for audibles, but they soon were corrected early in the day

I believe they meant audible for the first bell he did say lanyard but I didn’t hear stand clear for the first bell. Great job Noel killer climb!

Did they move away from the throw line and setting line? Do you just start off in the tree now?
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
The Workclimb always starts in the top of the tree

@@ClimbingArborist is it the masters challenge that starts with throw line and setting your climbing line?

Is there a reason he says ''Stand Clear'' every 5 seconds, new rule? Great climb tho!
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
The judges seemed to want it at this competition so he was making sure to over say it and not get docked points

Congratulations, brother! Great work. This competition looks like loads of fun. I pray to God that schools all over the world will receive climbing gear from God so that they can do this with kids and young people early on.

I'd like to see how I'd fair against him using DRT. Certainly an accomplished climber, but didn't see him do anything super special. No disrespect to Noel, but that tree looks pretty damn easy to negotiate.
@kevinvanbrunt7498 Жыл бұрын
I think DRT in that tree would be pretty overkill and take way too much time to set up. However, DdRT might be something that would be comparable. Work climb is usually set up fairly easy and it takes more than just climbing and hitting bells. Using all of the correct audibles for everything you do is paramount. Also, this limb walk was way gnarlier than it looks in the video.

You should test yourself in some upcoming competitions and find out . They are great fun and you learn a lot

Stand clears even for putting on and off your lanyard?! That seems like an excuse to take points away

Yes, they misinterpreted the rules but rectified it early in the day
