Depression is Depression it does not matter if you are rich or poor, it is still a struggle either way.
@SuperSaiyanScandinavian10 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. If you're poor and your depression is so crippling that you can't work, you're fucked. If you're rich, you can afford to not work. Depression sucks either way, but it's much harder to handle when you're poor. I'm not trying to say that the rich have no right to be depressed, because that's stupid. Anyone can be depressed, all I'm saying is that being rich makes it easier to live life with crippling depression. It's like they say, money doesn't buy happiness, but it helps.

illestirmz I'm wondering if she tried to change her diet since there are so many people getting out of depression, anxiety and all kinds of problems as simply as that. Or at least it can help if it doesn't solve the problem. This might seem stupid but I'm just wondering :)

+8R014V reminds me of an scene from californication (tv serie). they say something like: "oooh i just want to go drinking tonight and get fucked up, let's keep doing that forever" other guy says: "you can't do that, you're a responsible person, with a suit. i'm the artist, i can do that." something like that. it shows exactly that.

I cant imagine how nuts i would become over that kind of attention. I am amazed by any couples that are treated that way and stay together. Since the press would prefer the drama of a breakup and would attempt to manipulate one. While one would hear of the Britney stuggle and learn that people went too far. They didnt learn anything. I don't think I ever heard anyone in Hollywood be this real about depression
@brettmastema70563 жыл бұрын
I think some have tried and it often is after they have overcome most of it. So to many it comes off as downplaying the reality. I found that Pinks dumb song was almost taunting to hear when it came out as my life was getting worse, and it played over and over on the music playlist at work. I think if people went through something as bad as they claim, they would know a bit more how to relate to the person who actually dealt with serious depression. I felt bad that Anjolina Jolie kinda ended up getting so much praise when the film was a passion project for Ryder. Although I am sure she was very happy for her. I have heard shes very kind.

i hate when people say "some people have it worse you know" like wtf? do we not have the right to be depressed? like Winona, who was labeled as the luckiest girl in the world, doesn't have the right to be depressed because she's so damn lucky? yes, it's true, but you just don't say that to people who goes through the thing.

Yes, and the fact that she is rich and successful doesn't mean she can't go through difficult experiences. She's very private about her life and she said herself she had some traumatic experiences. We don't know everything for sure. Not to mention that depression has nothing to do with the "social status", it's a real illness...A terrible one.

@@rottensunbeam The problem is that means nothing to someone who hasnt felt it. Most people have been told that we have control over stuff that we dont always have any control. so often people dont get it unless they have it and if they get it, it often goes unchecked because they are afraid of hearing they have it because (i would like to think) its because of how they thought of others when they didnt get it. I have tried to be vocal about my issues when they were better since i find many people tend to not talk about their stuggles until its bad and then if it improves they are ashamed and try to not let anyone know. I cant believe how many people straight up told me not to talk about that because of how it made them feel. I was like, sorry YOU FEEL uncomfortable about my tic disorder. So about 17 years have passed since this interview. Today I think we can see the toll that the depression has put on Winona. She's very reclusive, super awkward in interviews. She can't even go online and has to have her mother go online for her then her mother relates back to her. It's a huge shame because she is such a truly gifted actress and while I don't know, she comes across to me as the kind of person you'd want as a friend. Girl Interrupted was I think her finest performance and a truly great movie. She's still knocking it out of the park though with Stranger Things.
@roguenation8 жыл бұрын
You have to realize that Ryder was embarrassed and even ashamed to be a adult professional actor, due to the fact that she considered it to be a relatively frivolous and immature occupation.
@survivorellie5 жыл бұрын
But is it so wrong for her to not want to go online? Or for her to be reclusive and private? I know in this age it seems very weird, but I think it's how she copes and I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to stay out of the social media madness.
@No-knighthood4 жыл бұрын
Yes this could be true, but i think people need to stop assuming, labelling awkardness (which i dont even find she is), quiteness, reclusiveness etc as things that 'arnt right' or 'odd' and therefore their must be something wrong. All of those things are apart of being human. We are all different. Let her be. She may even be so happy. Can we just watch and appreciate her without analysing ?! ... im not trying to be mean, just some thoughts !! 💕

@@No-knighthood hey. I wrote this 4 years ago and I really can't even remember why I wrote it. Just one of those stream of mind commenting in the moment things a bit like this comment right now. I understand your sentiment and I'd never want to bother this actress. I'm no stranger to social isolation, especially this year and I automatically relate people with lots of friends enjoying life together as the best place to be. So I do see something wrong when someone isolates themselves. We are social creatures and there are even studies done that show the more social we are the longer we live. People who live alone die younger but I don't remember the exact stats now. Nothing wrong with some alone time. I think that's vital too but I'd agree we shouldn't be analyzing people we don't know. That's one of those bad habits that is easy to fall into when discussing celebrities. Thanks for the comment!

I can relate to everything she's said in this interview so much. Everything she's been through is so familiar, right down to how she explains it. How the depression feels and how it comes back. How she was just so sick of the depression, how she didn't want to let anyone know, how she couldn't sleep, how she felt so alone. How the suicidal thoughts weren't as suicidal as they were to just want out of the world. Girl, Interrupted is one of my favorite movies. I watch it over and over again. She's such an inspiration for me.

She's one my favorite actresses. To be honest I like a lot of different actresses. But I always thought that Winona had a special aura about her. It just seems like she can't pretend, she seems real in every interview. Maybe that's why she seems a little bit "awkward" sometimes. I'm sure that I'd also be like this if I was a celebrity. I watched the two parts of this interview and I relate a lot to what she's saying but what she's explaining at the end... The fact that she's at an age when she has to be responsible and she can't just be like "it's ok I'm young", I feel exactly like this. I turned 23 two months ago and I still can't adjust to the fact that I'm becoming an adult more and more. I still wish I was a teenager so that I could be like "it's normal to feel this way, it's normal that I'm depressed, I'm still young" etc. When you're in your twenties, people just expect so much from you. And I know that it will only get worse with time. Right now I'm still a law student, everyone around me wants to start working and be independant. I don't want that. I don't want to have even more responsibilities, I don't want to live alone, to move from my parents house... I'm scared of being an adult. It's not just about not wanting to be old or something, I feel like it is deeper than that... It seriously makes me sad and depressed.

It's so silly when people can't empathize for wealthy people who are depressed. I don't think their wealth changes anything. Looking at my own situation... not as wealthy as a celebrity obviously but middle class, I should be grateful I'm not living on the streets right? But I still have miserable days. I think if I had more money I would still be miserable.. people have unique struggles. Also.. depression is really complicated and could be genetics or something just wonky with your brain. Celebrities are NOT perfect. Also i think people underestimate the work they do. They're wealthy because they're working, and their jobs are tough and draining physically/mentally.

I used to work at a place like that in "girl, interrupted"...but I also have my share of trouble you know...we were helping each other out...I saw the movie again recently it is something like that..sometimes crazier stuff with patients...when I left I heard some patients became part of the staff at the clinic because it helped them stay clean...in the movie winona leaves and doesn't become part of the staff and she didn't leave with her boyfriend played by jared leto the guy from 30 seconds to mars...

Explain to me why Winona doesn't have an Oscar while Jennifer Lawrence and Gwyneth Paltrow have?

Cause Harvey Weinstein didn't campaign for her like he did for so many others and at the time Winona was at her peak (mid 90s to early 2000) the best actress was almost exclusively for miramax films, so unless she got to work in one of those films and it was Oscar bait she didn't have a real chance, for me I think she should've won for Little women but that year Jessica Lange won for blue sky which is considered her lowest film and no one remembers her for it today unlike little women which is by far the best adaptation of the novel to date.
