The "Magic Erasers" are a "Melamine Foam" - Although they feel very soft, they are in fact a very hard material - (think like fibreglass wool) in the form of a micro structured open cell foam. They work great but must be used with a very light touch"Do not rub" or you risk taking off the surface sizing or even the paper surface. They are easy to cut into thin wedges with a sharp blade, allowing you to lift out quite precise highlights. I prefer to use the dampened sponge on a dry paint surface so a to cause as little disturbance to the surface size as possible. Bear in mind that the effectiveness will vary greatly on the pigments being lifted and the type / quality of paper. Staining colours like Phthalocyanines will never lift completely.

Thanks for all this Peter. yes, since making this video I have had a chance to use them more, and have discovered that they work best damp on dry paint, that too much rubbing can destroy them as well as the paper , as you say lifitng the sizing and the paper itself, and that not all pigments are able to be lifted in the same way.

thanks for reviewing these Judith, they look like fun (though not sure if I fancy getting cadmiums and cobalts on my fingers so directly. Maybe they sell grips like the inktense...) You mentioned in a previous video that you use Rembrandt watercolours, I would be soooo greatful if you could review them as I cannot find even one video review about them . I currently use Windsor and Newton artist but am still so fond of talent Van Gogh that I cannot help wondering about their artist line.

Hi, thanks for your comments. I will try to do a review of those for you. I think that if you had the Derwent grippers for their ink tense, you could probably use those for these as well. I know I should be more concerned about getting pigments on my skin...I'm not great at using gloves when I clean either! Probably why my skin isn't great!!

PS, I just ran out to the studio to check. Apologies, this is a cadmium red HUE (and there are no cobalts in this set) so there shouldn't be any issues safety wise. Also, I tried a Derwent gripper and it's a bit tight but you could use them with these. For me though, I'd rather not, since it kind of limits what you do with them, but that's a personal choice. I hope this helps!
