For me, I first bought the ICAN Wheels and they were very light but they seemed to me to be not as stiff as I liked. And they felt to be lacking lateral stiffness when I climbed in a standing position and do sprints. I was hoping for better performing wheels overall, but I did like how light the ICAN Wheels were they just simply felt not as solid as other road bike wheels I have used over many years like ROVAL, Easton, and Reynolds Wheels. I purchased the HYPER Wheels and from the moment I opened the box I was sold. The stiffest and most solid feeling wheels I have ever used are the HYPER Wheels. No lateral movements when standing climbing. And they accelerate just as I hoped a Road Bike wheel could. I have been on HYPER wheels and LUN Wheels for multiple years now and I have not had a single negative issue with the HYPER Wheels. In fact, I hit a boulder during a race one time using the HYPER Wheels when racing in the Philippines. I crashed extremely hard and I was sure my rear wheel was destroyed. However, the HYPER Wheel took the hit from the giant rock at race speed and literally has not one reflection of the smash. The wheel rolls perfectly true still and you could never tell there was a giant accident to the wheels. I was amazed that the wheels could take such a giant hit and not have the slightest show of damage. The ICAN Wheels roll nice and smooth on the flat roads but do feel soft and not quite at the performance level I was hoping for. The Hyper Wheels I would buy again. Also, I use the Rim Brake versions, so cannot comment on the Disc Brake models.

Similar experience with my Hyper 50s disk - to date they’ve traveled approx 12000 pretty rough & harsh Km & still roll fast & true just like day one .. extremely happy! I have no issue recommending Winspace Hypers. Personally, I don’t believe it is worth upgrading to the new Hypers even though I’d like to 👍

Lmao currently riding the ICAN aero's for two years, and they are very light but I Agree 100% they lack stiffness for when climbing out saddle, sprinting or cornering very hard. Now waiting for the hyper 2023. Hope I will be as pleased as you are

The ICAN Wheels do roll very good and I was happy with the purchase, it was just the slight feeling of softness the wheels had. It is not a bad knock on them, just a feeling, and then the side-to-side play on the standing climbing part I was not pleased with. For me, this has always been a big issue, because many of my workouts when climbing are standing climb drills. So the wheel rubbing the brake pads sort of drives me crazy! The HYPER Wheels were extremely light and extra stiff, and not a hint of side-to-side movements when climbing. This fast made me only want to use the HYPER Wheels, even when I have many other brands to select from and use.

Nice break down! Thank you for the extensive review! Regarding price, Ican has local warehouses. So for me living in Europe, I bought the Ican Alpha 45 wheels from the EU Warehouse. The shipping was free and no taxes. Admitedly the price was slightly higher (less than 100 euro) than if bought from China but stil, no import tax or shipping costs! So the cost for me was 575 Euro for the wheels. That is a bargain for decent wheels!

I'm running 25's on them tubeless mostly on my TT bike, but just bought a backup road bike for use on inclement days and on the trainer. I rode the Hypers tonight and they're such great wheels. I've put about 3000 km on them and they perform like the day I took them out of the box. When there is money in the budget for a new set of wheels it will probably be to upgrade the wheelset that came with my principal road bike....currently running Vision SC55 Disc that are ok. Hey Cam, I have a pair of ICAN wheels as my first carbon wheels and I agree with Aaron at Trilogy Cycles. Upon inspection of trueness, dishing, bearings, and hubs, it’s well built. For the most part, these wheels work fine. The difference then, is the technology and manufacturing of the hub, spokes, and how it’s all put together before it’s shipped out. And then, the Hypers are next on my list of wheels to purchase and test out. Those carbon spokes, while proprietary and hard to source, look amazing! I’m glad you get a few free spokes for when they need replacement. Thanks again Cam!

Great breakdown on these rims Cam and Aaron at Trilogy was frank, honest and realistic. I have heard that the Windspace Hyper’s with ceramic bearings in their hubs, can wear quickly due to the baring hardness v’s the metal bearing casing. Did Aaron comment about this at all?
@CamNicholls2 жыл бұрын
Cheers David, no but he did say (which I cut out, as Aaron actually talked for one hour on camera!) was that ceramic does not always mean better!
@davidtyler51292 жыл бұрын
@@CamNicholls yes as I research rim options, I’ve noted that ceramic doesn’t always mean better. Sure there can be weight savings and performance enhancing gains, but weighed against the extra cost to buy ceramic over steel bearing hubs and the cost of maintenance and if one isn’t racing, then the test of commonsense should be applied. There are still some great rims out there running S/steel bearings.

In most cases ceramic bearings marketed to you in hubs are only ceramic balls not a Full ceramic bearing, in relation to races and retainers etc.

Got the wheel rebuilt, as the brake track had loads of life left, with a dt swiss hub. They have served me well as my fast wheels with about 24,000km done, but I've never ridden anything more premium so I don't know what I might be missing by spending more.

@timandkristigeddes19972 жыл бұрын
I just bought the Elite ENT wheels and they are decent for the price. Although they are my first carbon wheels so I don't have experience to compare to anything else. I would best describe the difference from the half decent alum stock rims to the ENT's as "noticeable" but not significant. I had my local bike shop fit them too in case there was anything wrong with them. My verdict would be they are a good "first carbon wheel", or if you are on a strict budget.

Hi! 🙂 Maybe u could help to decide what brand and which carbon wheels should I get? My rides are ussualy 30-100km with 100-400 meters of total climbs, so pretty flat. I think I should get around 45-50mm deep wheels? I could buy new zipp 303s from local shop for around 700 EU, or it would worth to spend around 1170 eu for Windpace hyper wheels? Nice job. Feel like so many people over the years, and rightfully so often, are against a Chinese open mold wheel/frame, but lately a few brands, albeit at higher prices clearly, are producing a really good product, hyper being one of those. With that said owned many brands, and ride one of the older HongFu 45mm wheelset/rim brakes, still a really good wheel when built up properly with quality hubs/spokes, never had a single issue with them. Reynolds, good wheel all around. Zipp, garbage. Soft/flexy, terrible hubs...not worth the money at all. As a sprinter, they are terrible even under leadout loads. Anyway...good stuff, keep it coming.
