Many grandad was rescued at Dunkirk and brought back to Blighty. If he wasn’t rescued by the evacuation ordered by Churchill I prob wouldn’t be able to write this message as I would not be here today.

According to TV Tropes this would be an example of a "Rousing Speech."

This recording was made after the address to Parliament. He "wasn't into it" at that time. The original delivery was quite rousing!

He was a “Man Of The Hour,” that is for sure. I read a short documentary about him. He was very open in talking about his depression. He called it his “Black Dog.” That certainly fits when you think about it. When we think about the alternative, we were blessed with men of strength and character to do what was hard for the lives of many.

Why the insipid background music? A brilliant speech from a brilliant man.

It is too bad this recording isn't original speech Churchill gave in Parliament in Jun 1940. But it was Churchill reading his speech he wrote but which was recorded after the war in 1949 for posterity at the behest of the Imperial War Museum and library. Those who heard the speech in Parliament, as it was not recorded or broadcast by the BBC, stated it was a lot more firey and decisive, although it was published in the newspapers directly after. Nevertheless, it is one of the greatest speeches in British History.

There seems to be an annoying noise in the background that belittles the speech.

Why the useless background music? What does it add to the great man's words?

Nobody else would have said those so brave words when Britain was in deep trouble, alone , isolated and with the possibility of Germans landing on the soil of Britain.Never, never give up.,The war is not lost till the last soldier is dead and last bullet is fired.Just think of the funeral of Winston Churchill and then see what happened to the dead bodies of Hitler and Mussolini etc.Having said that ,I must ask why Europe has such a very cruel history

First we'll thank the 650 CIVILIAN vessels' crews who entered an actual battle zone over and over again to rescue the troops. We are talking about small fishing vessels, even rowing boats.

@mikedimarco.Just the sort of comment you would expect from an Italian/American. We stood alone until you were forced into the war.Read your history boy. I bet you think John Wayne won the war. Without Sir Winston we would of all been speaking German now.
