Winston knows his opponent is very skilled and a former pro player, he's up 40-15, probably began to feel pressure being up ahead and lost just enough focus to make some mistakes. Give the guy credit for playing such high level opponents. It's not like he's losing every point of every game. He is staying competitive in my view.

I'm a professional drummer (and a very very amateur tennis player) and I can tell you that the pro drummers (as Ema--pro tennis player) don't care what kind of drum kit or even the positioning of a drum kit/cymbals they play on, they just adjust and don't care. As a jazz drummer I play on house kits all the time and they come in all sorts of sizes and tuning and configurations, including cymbals. There is an unspoken etiquette amongst pro drummers to not really change anything about a house kit. It doesn't bother us. And so I can see how Ema is the same. Doesn't matter what sort of sticks she plays with (tension, I imagine does matter but that's a given because she uses her equipment in a different way a drummer uses his/her instrument, so the analogy of tension to drum head tension/tuning is not applicable here because she uses her as a weapon offensively while drummers use tuning for sound texture) as long as they're high quality pro level racquets. I love this series and I just stumbled upon this channel; it's amazing how good pros are at anything: athletics, music, writing, art, chess, you name it. Humans are amazing all around. Great channel, by the way.

Great match by two awesome influencers. Winston was just a little bit off today, and Ema pounced! She has pro level control of the ball, there is such a big difference there. She can hit high balls, low balls, side spin balls, flat, whatever, she will put it back in play with pace and a low bounce so no time to get to it. Amateurs can hit hard, but if the ball is too far out of their sweet spot it's usually a weaker shot and a pro will crush it. The White-out racket is very good and predictable; Winston needs to finish his strokes every time and he will be in heaven.
@bojack3827Ай бұрын
Winston looked pretty normal to me. Everyone varies from +10%/-10% on different days and that's pretty normal. Maybe a few more errors today with the different racquet, but the score wouldn't have been much different.

Hard adjustment to the new racket Winston, think just getting used to the new setup you'll probably get back to the same and further since you'll get to swing through more! @jonathankieranwriterАй бұрын
She was very much in control along the baseline, making tactically solid responses when Winston dragged her into the corners (adjusting spin to keep herself in the point), and connecting with short balls very effectively. Her footwork was textbook; she knew where to direct both her forehand and backhand to keep Winston off balance from either side. Smart placement, but Winston has played better and could have taken a few more games with a couple of the adjustments mentioned at the end, e.g. bending the knees frequently, but also pulling her wide on her two-hander with a heavier ball. Fun to watch. She could regain some stature in pro doubles, I would think. Hard to say about singles, but the experience is definitely there.

Your serve has improved, or am I wrong? I see less of a waiter tray and more head speed. Still room for improvement to get into a faster motion, starting from the raquet drop. Your biggest problems today seemed to be - fh into the net when on the run in defence; I'm not enough of a technical coach to see why that happened - running around the backhand and not having time to execute a fh, hence more fh mistakes; here I would have simply stayed on bh; it was not like your bh is/was a liability I think the lift on a half court ball is another thing to develop. Nick (Intuitive Tennis) has great instructionals on it. Good vid as always!

Winston has potential to be a 5.5 player but his shot selection in almost all his videos is closer to a 4.0. Too many balls returned directly to Ema's body and her forehand making it easier for her to control each point and constantly have faster Winston on the run.

@@zanido9073 As far as I know (I maybe wrong) he's officially a 4.5 in Cali. He's improved his game tremendously in the recent years. Please also remember that one's rating may not represent their current game, as he's obviously going against someone who is clearly many levels higher. If you're playing in Canada and as you say you would "bagel" him then in your area 4.5s are much higher in their performance.
