I love the lightweight white wool fabric and I agree that you should make a wide, swirly bias cut skirt. Please do not make something small like shorts. I think the fabric needs to make a statement with a substantiallly sized garment so it can be shown to its best advantage. Happy sewing!

Love your choices of fabric and patterns! The cream wool fabric would make a beautiful Megan Neilsen Brumby skirt or an unlined jacket like the Papercut Nova or or lined jacket like Papercut Stacker. I can also see it as a cape/poncho like the Style Arc Nell or Seamwork Camden. It would also make beautiful handmade homewares like cushion covers - a touch of embroidery would be spectacular with the fabric too. 😍 As for the curtain idea, maybe look at ceiling tracks. I know that Ikea sells them (Vidga range) - they are easy to put up and will create a neat little nook to use longer term.

When you are in Tokyo, if you get a chance, I would highly recommend you go to the teamLab Planets museum. It is absolutely fascinating. When we were in Japan four years ago, we had no problem getting around even though we didn't speak the language. Goggle translate is very helpful. See if you can get to some fabric shops when you are there as they have some beautiful material.

Love that blue fabric! It will make a gorgeous skirt. A back vent would add a classic touch and make walking easier🙂💕

the blue check could also look lovely in a 30s style straight skirt, like the kind you often see in skirt suit patterns, they tend to have a bit of late below the knee to make walking easier. but then again i am biased because i love 30s designs 😆 with regards to the Heather dress slip situation - depending on what else you wear the slip with, why not just… hem the slip shorter?

That's a good idea for the blue check fabric, thank you! and for the half slip, it's the only one I have and it's the right length for all my other garments, so I don't want to shorten it, but I think it's high time to buy or make a second, shorter one 😊

Tension rod for the doorframe would be probably the cheapest and most versatile, you can use any fabric that you are not attached to, sew a tunel that would fit the rod and you are done :) after you don't need it anymore just rip out the seam and reuse the fabric for a project (mock up or if it is wearable piece just be mindful of where the seam was). If you have any larger amount of really lightweight fabric you could just throw it over the rod like you would hang a wet towel and use it like that, without any seam. The cheapest Ikea curtains are also a viable option. For the ivory/beige tweed I can see a beautiful spring coat, trenchcoat, maybe a blazer. If your wedding was in the cooler months it could be made into a piece for the wedding (coat, underskirt, bolero, ...). I love the pink? violet? fabric that you'll write about for Minerva, it looks gorgeous and really suits you, you just light up next to it.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I don't even have a door frame to work with, our ground floor is a completely open floor plan! But using fabric that I can later reuse for sewing is a great idea, thank you! I've only got a meter of the wool twill fabric, but a blazer or bolero would fit! Thank you for the ideas 😊

@@Sarah_Naomi you can use plastic coated steel clothesline instead of the rod, attach it to a piece of furniture on both sides, drying rack or wall ... another option instead of fabric would be bedding or duvet cover that you are currently not using. But your best bet for open space floor would probably be a portable room divider that you can use after the wedding anywhere in the house, either as it is intended or as decoration piece.

So many lovely projects! I love that beautiful navy fabric. I visited Taipei in 2017, and I'd recommend the National Palace Museum and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Also don't miss going to a night market! I travelled to Taiwan on my own, and I felt very comfortable and safe there. English is widely spoken, and people are very friendly. I hope you have a great time there :)

That wool twill fabric is beautiful. It would make super Closet Core Mitchell trousers. Only downside would be dry cleaning!!

Get a tension rod and some lightweight curtains! The tension rod won’t mar the doorframes. You just need to make sure the curtains are very lightweight so they don’t weigh it down. ❤

Lovely projects. I think you are on to something here, and that having a few palate cleansers in between the work on the wedding dress is a good idea. The white wool is beautiful. I think it would look great in something like a pinafore dress, like the Named clothing Utu (from the book Breaking the pattern). It would also look stunning in something like the Fumeterre skirt by Deer and doe, but of course.. a white, long skirt is not the most practical item :)

Congratulations. You’re brave to make your wedding dress. The white wool is gorgeous. I would suggest you underline with cotton batiste and make a dress, use the leftover check fabric to make a short swing jacket and wear them together. You can hack a knit skirt pattern by using a 1 inch seam allowance, baste it and take out the seams where you need to. FYI I cut patterns between sizes all the time. Lovely fabric haul. Look forward to seeing what you make.

So many beautiful projects you have coming up! Btw the security cameras at airports only detect certain materials, (like metal, liquids etc.). They won't even recognize wooden knitting needles. Good luck with your wedding dress, I really hope you will enjoy the process a lot, and not let perfectionism take over! :)

I have plans to make skirts this year too. I've purchased a few books on designing your own which look interesting and helpful. I plan to make them out of knit (upf sun protection fabric to make full outfits - tees and skirts matching :) but I may make a few in other fabrics as well. I have some very pretty silk in my collection that would make pretty skirts. My favourite Tee pattern is the Ebony by Closet Case. This was a total surprise! I never expected to love this pattern but it's really flattering and comfortable and cool. That's my big project for this year - UPF outfits and wraps. I've been having some fun with "house dresses" as well. I've discovered the joy of the re-claimed housedress 🥰 It doesn't have to fit but it needs to be made from breathable, comfortable, resilient fabric. It will be washed a LOT compared to my other clothing. And cool because my apt is very warm. The housedress is under-rated! It gives you an opportunity to practice out a pattern determining the fit and where you would need to tweak it to fit for the public eye. I've made a few and actually a couple of them, as it turns out, I would wear out in the summer. I look forward to watching your process again in '23 Sarah. Love your work. For your white wool twill, as soon as I saw it I thought of a cape for your wedding to wear in case it's cool or going into the evening and it's something you could wear afterwards too which would carry so many lovely memories that you could continue to wear often! There are some lovely cape patterns and you wouldn't have to line it as a cape - you could finish the seams with bias binding - a nice lace for the bias binding Just being silly but maybe not! 😊

I have a gingham-printed skirt that I love wearing around the house in the summertime - my fiancé says it looks like a dish towel, but I love it! 😂

@@Sarah_Naomi Really any shift dress or top that you like that can be easily lengthened works great. Any dress pattern is a top pattern after all and visa versa. I love the Endless Summer Tunic pattern, The Ogden cami lengthened, The Grainline Studio Hadley, lengthened, Fira Dress & Top by Leisl and Co or the Charlie by Closet Core. I sew them oversized, flowy and comfortable. I think the secret to success is using the best fabric. These dresses are going to be in heavy rotation, lots of washes, and should to be comfortable on your skin. I read once that the garments you wear the most should be sewn with the best/priciest fabrics whereas the dresses you'll only wear a couple of times should be made with the cheapest. So an evening gown for example should be made with the cheapest fabric possible and your work clothes or home clothes should be made with the best and most $$$. I've followed that guideline for years.

Check with the airline you are flying with. They should say on their website if knitting needles are okay. But I have flown with knitting in my carryon before without a problem!

Thanks for sharing all your beautiful garment plans! You have such an elegant style. About the offwhite wool fabric, I think you can wash it in a wool/handwash program in your machine. Use detergent specially for delicate fabrics and change the spin speed to a bit less if possible, about 1000 rpm. I have done this multiple times and it works fine, the fabric usually comes out very nice and soft. I think it would look beautiful as a half circle or pleated wide skirt with a wide waistband. Buttons down the front would look nice too. Maybe also a fitted waistcoat to make a sort of suit? I’m working on a comission, a tunic/dress in viscose jersey with a drapy cowl neck and after that some custom made wash bags. For myself I want to make another York pinafore dress, such a fun pattern. Lots of good luck with your wedding dress! I made mine too many years ago, plus my two brides maid’s ones 😅

I would use the white fabric for a full circle skirt if you have enough, or you could’ve do 3/4 or half if you don’t. I made a dress from the same weight of wool fabric with a full circle skirt and it hangs so beautifully!

I feel I need to add a word about Minerva. The Royal Mail hack has made shipping extremely slow. I ordered swatches Dec. 8th and they still haven’t arrived. Without going into details, I’ve gotten apologies but zero customer service. They will re send the swatches through another carrier but at my expense. They also have not offered a refund. Just saying I have not had the customer service experience others seemed to have.
