I’ve bale grazed for 10 plus years now. Really like bale grazing across our pastures. Sure adds a lot of nutrients to the land. We graze two days at a time before moving. We set some straw in the rows that they can chew on as they clean up the hay on the second day. Would like to corn graze, but it sometimes does well, sometimes not in northern Alberta. We do swath graze barley or oats for a month or so every year in the fall with the pairs. Saves a lot of tractor hours and leaves the manure out on the land.

Swath grazing is a little tricky here because we can get a fair amount of rain in the fall. thanks for watching

You're one of the few that talk about baking soda. I have been using it free choice for a few years here in Oklahoma and I love the results. Keep up the great work 👍

Why not use smaller bales.......like 3x4 foot bales ? Cows are in and out in a short time. Not so much trampling in one area !

Where do you like to do the bale grazing? hay ground, pasture etc. Also, how does the grass look the next year after bale grazing on it?
@MattyIce6511 ай бұрын
The best is hay ground on hills if possible. Actually I have found bale grazings on alfalfa ground two years before you put it back to farm ground is the best way to fertilize farm ground thanks for watching

You mention last two bales they didn’t eat “because it was sweet clover or cattails”…. Which sweet clover would it be? Also what’s your mineral program for your bulls?..
@MattyIce6511 ай бұрын
Yellow clover they did eat ‘em later just really stemy. We sent all the bull to a feed yard for daily rations they are force fed purina mineral all winter thanks for watching

Never bale grazed before curious if you continue it while calving of feed with wagon to make sure everything is supplemented properly?
@MattyIce6511 ай бұрын
We start calving May 10th so we are done feeding. Try to be done bale grazing when the frost comes out.

Only question is how u can get 3-400 cows to all get sum of your one bale of alfalfa unrolled. Not enough room and your old cows will only get the leftovers if there is any.
@clintonlehmann43699 ай бұрын
Very good video though. We bale graze a lot to

What is the protein in your Alfalfa bales?
@MattyIce6511 ай бұрын
Usually runs 15-18
@wallyyuriy891211 ай бұрын
@@MattyIce65 nice. Last few years my alfalfa bales are 9%. Been dry. Thought they’d have way better quality. Have to buy protein supplements
@JimHerman-o3q10 ай бұрын
Ive grazed for years.......never put any additives in any other feeds. Only used smaller round bales of good quality grass. Shouldnt need anything else !
@JimHerman-o3q10 ай бұрын
Goodness..........you need a tester to check the fence ??? You have dry feet.....most likely dry socks...... dry shoes.........dry boots. So you cant just take hold of it and check it ? Imagine...if the power company turned the power off every time they replaced a pole so they didnt get shocked ??? Most places would be out of power for 20% of the time ! Sad ! Hahaha
