I think the dark sleeper is one of the best baits. It’s pretty weedless around grass and they are really good to drag and or reel in. It’s the perfect Jig/swimbait combo. I think the colors are good but I wish there were a few more. I haven’t tried the powerbait one but I think it’s going to be about as good. Maybe a little better because the rattle and the powerbait scent.

Have recently subscribed. I'm a saltwater fisherman who lives next to Lake Anna, in Virginia. Why do I drive 2 hours to catch fish? Because I'm a little addicted to catching striper, blues, flounder, AND because I don't know much about fresh water. Well, looking at your videos is helping me to understand the thinking and concepts. Thank you SO much for taking the time to articulate the little details! I have taught a lot of people how to fish, and I know good instruction from someone who has done it a milliion times, and you are legit. It's cold here, and I plan to go out and find some fish, and figure out how to catch them. You have shortened up my learning curve. Thank you!

The single best piece of information, though... after 2 videos dedicated to cold water cranks, yours in particular, this is the first time you mentioned hitting the bottom - I had thought you were swimming them. I am one of the guys lucky enough to already have some of your cranks - took them out two days and they have yet to get bit... thanks to this video, I know I was fishing them wrong. Always look forward to you guys' videos - hope you keep 'em coming.

Water is at its densest at 39.6° F . At that temperature fish become their sluggish . Also at that temperature water starts to expand to form ice crystals and as it gets colder it rises to the top of the water column leaving the warmest water at the bottom of the lake . I have fished lakes that were 33° on top down to 25 feet and from there on down it was 34° . All my fish I caught were at that 25 foot level and below . Just remember fish will bite in waters as cold as 33° , but not at that dense 39.6° . Also I have found that bass prefer white jigs and worms in water below 45° . I caught 45 fish on a white jig before while my partner caught nothing on a black and brown jig .

Hey Matt, I’ve got a question that maybe you’ve covered but I can’t find anything on it. Through the years I’ve been able to find good quality fish on the Northern CA reservoirs in nearly every season and type of weather except one. Winter rain storms. Especially with the big baits, the bite seems to nearly shut off completely while it’s raining. If the rain stops for a short time the bite usually picks up but goes away when the rain comes again. Are there certain things that you do during a winter storm when it’s actively raining to catch quality fish or is it just “wait until the rain stops” situation. Thanks and keep up the good work!
@califishing49915 жыл бұрын
i have had it go both ways, i would have to say more often they shut down. it seems if i find a school of them i can keep them going. also i will throw different things at them(same cast with different baits) Also when a storm system comes in, don't fish the fist day or two. idk way but it just seems to be much harder than the 3rd 4th or so on. good luck hope this helps.
@brianrobinson99795 жыл бұрын

Hey Matt, i know you guys always talk about braid to leader. I do use that. In the past i always tied uni knots for the connection knot . The only draw back was that it was a little thick and snag on the rod guides as it went through. Recently i learned about the fg knot. Liked how thin it was and supposedly the stongest knot for braid to leader. I definitly liked that. Just wondering if you knew about this knot and your thoughts on it. If you like it maybe you guys can do an instructional video on it as there are alreasy many how to tie this knot on youtube and it gets confusing.
@ballzybaits44145 жыл бұрын
