I agree with you about being forced to read a book, or story while in school. I felt this way about "Death Of A Salesman", and Steinbeck's "The Pearl". My son came home with the book "The Pearl",and I decided to read it and give it a second chance. I loved it ! Sometimes it's the circumstance,or the age we're at, that influences our opinions at the time.

I don't know guys, listening to you I think maybe I was lucky I wasn't forced to read The Great Gatsby in high school and got to it only a few years ago, because I really enjoyed reading it and I put the novel high up in my ranking. As for this story "Winter Dreams" I read it by chance not even a week ago and was positively impressed. So much so that I wonder why it is not more anthologized along with Babylon Revisited or The Diamond as Big as the Ritz, which to me are clearly inferior. Is it maybe because it's so close to The Great Gatsby in themes and motives that has been overshadowed by it?
