Winter flowering bonsai - Mahonia ''The Rock'' (February 2020)

I have a few of these in my back yard.. forest. Thinking g bonsai. How did you do with this one. Mine out back has larger leaf structure heavy bark I'm wondering if the Leaves will get smaller once I set it up for bonsai.. Actually nice looking planned with flowers.

It’s more suitable for an accent tree than a real bonsai in my experience. All the new shoots would die and I couldn’t achieve a real tree look. It only wants to grow up, not sideways. But it is growing in a quite small pot, maybe the solution is to put it in a bigger pot for starters…

I couldn’t make the leaves smaller as all the new shoots would die, so there are only few branches..
