Heck of a view of the size difference between these two ships. This footage really hammers that home. And yet, they're BOTH huge! Very nicely filmed. Cheers... Marian 🇨🇦

I was hoping to get a top-down shot but regulations limit drones to 400ft high which is where I was. The angle doesn’t hurt the perspective too much though, PRT is about 30% longer than the CHJ which is sort of insane!

@@NorthernElevations Did not know that about drone usage, and height limitations. Appreciate the info!

I've seen those ships that barely fit in the Welland Canal locks - amazing to see them enter and leave the locks so expertly. Great video of the ships passing each other and the comparison of their lengths

I know there are advanced navigation tools and captains have years of experience venue going solo, but it’s certainly amazing how seemingly agile the big boats are! Thanks for the comment ☺️

Thanks for the comment! I try to have a video every 2 weeks - next one on the go is the James R Barker!

Another great video with excellent footage. Comparing the lengths of the two vessels as they passed one another was a very effective shot. As always I enjoyed the narration. 👍

Thanks! As I’m (slowly) learning more about these boats it’s getting a bit easier to pick out little details like the sizes and how they affect where they can go, what their typical cargos are and stuff like that

Man, your videos and narration are next to none. I still can't understand how you are not afraid to fly your drone so low. Sure it makes for great footage but it's risky.

Thanks, really appreciate it 😁 Honestly I’m not that worried…flying over water has me less worried than flying over town. At least if it drops in the water there’s zero chance anyone gets hurt. Watching videos of people flying over cities and people (even flying over the ships when there could be crew on deck) is what worries me. All it takes is one propeller to break, the battery coming loose, software to glitch out, or angry bird to make the drone fall. That said, I do trust the drone quite a bit - there are 3 things I rely on to keep my drone above water: - I’ve heard water can mess with the downward distance sensor but I’ve never had an issue (perhaps famous last words hah). It won’t get closer than 5 meters away from any object (including water) beneath it - The height sensor with measures vertical distance from takeoff can go to about -2.5m from where I usually takeoff (lately I’ve been hand launching my drone so that adds like 1.5m) just in case the downward distance sensors aren’t reading right - Keep an eye out and be reasonable. There’s a video feed, and usually when I’m flying low it’s generally pretty well controlled. The area I’m flying has very steady water too, there have never been big waves (and I don’t fly when wind gusts are over 40km/hr which is what my drones are rated for) I’ve been thinking about wearing a GoPro or something and adding in a few shots of me using the controller while flying so you can see what I see. Maybe in the spring I’ll give that a shot

@ all good points. And I basically know all this but still I am tense flying $2500 drone over water, especially hundreds of metres away. More power to you, I enjoy your work. Cheers!
