With only the sounds of river flowing, and comforting crackles of your fire. Being alone with only your thoughts is such a healing experience. I once camped alone in the Monte Le Sal mountains near Moab, Utah. It was so quiet I could hear my heartbeat. Woke up to three deer outside my tent. My spine is a mess now, I wonder if a hammock would be comfy. Thank you for the brief respite from all the distractions of modern life.

As a once upon a time (partial) Te Araroa hiker, this stuff takes me straight back into that beautiful place in my mind (and heart). Reminds me of the Richmond Ranges. Great to see these pure & peaceful long format camping vids from the NZ! Oh and I guess winter keeps the sandflies away? Thanks for these vids and kind regards from the NL.

That line attached to your zipper is smart! I'm always searching for thr ziplock. That makes it so easy. Gonna copy that! Have a DD Frontline myself. I used a 2 person sleepingbag as underquilt last weekend with 2° C and didn't get cold. I fold it all around the hammock, like a giant hotdog. Also, an extra blanket over my inflatable mattres and an aluminum sheet I use for window protection of the car in winter underneath the mattress. My bottom was not cold, just a bit on my belly. My sleeping back is 3, not 4 seasons, so gonna buy an army blanket or something as extra sheet.

Hey, I’m really enjoying your channel, thanks for what you do! I’m a Hammock Gear junkie, but I’d also recommend Dutch and maybe a few other cottage vendors. I have a couple of HG hammocks and 20° top and bottom Econ quilts. I absolutely love them! I’d like to get the premium quilts next. Anyway, thanks again!

Comfort is essential. We all have to freeze once in a while and it seems no matter how you prepare. I do a lot more backyard testing and take extra puffy sleeping gear with an extra close cell mat just in case. The best I ever slept was in a freak ice storm because my dog climbed in with me.

Brilliant videos and so relaxing. Off for a wild camp in Scotland in a couple of weeks. Can’t decide to go hammock or tent! Need to be able to have a fire near the tarp/hammock so you’ve given me an idea for my set up now. Want to be able to set it low at the rear to stop the wind so just wondered if you set your ridge line to the centre of the tarp or off centre to get the configuration you’ve got! Great channel and thanks for al you bring to this great hobby!!
@ABCampingTony3 жыл бұрын
Ridge line is central but doesn’t have to be. If weather is bad then tent is always way to go.

Let's get off-topic for just a second. I reckon this best be aimed towards Ann and Tony. Ann, you are the wife every outdoor husband dreams about. Lucky is the man, indeed, who finds himself an Ann! Did you use a sleeping pad inside the hammock? I used a One Tigris (no down) underquilt last winter in 15 degree F (-9 C) and slept very well. Even in the summer, in Michigan, I use the same underquilt and a closed cell foam pad inside the hammock. Hammock material is COLD, so you have to have some insulation on both sides of the hammock material. Underquilt alone is not enough.
@ABCampingTony4 жыл бұрын
Tim D unfortunately I did t have my pad with me. I've ordered a new under quilt from outdoor vitals though.

Perhaps if you have an insulated sleeping mat, and underquilt, you may have been ok. It's still a bugger that they falsely advertise their ratings. Thanks for the video.

Tony, I recognize I’m VERY late on this video, but I’m curious about the ready availability of those large logs. Is that commonly available at sites in NZ? The logs looked is if perhaps they’d been cut by forest management and left available for campers, or was this something you cut before setting up your campsite? Looking forward to doing a similar camp with my daughter and our hammocks this summer!

I wanted to see the hammock setup because I have been looking into it but I camp in campgrounds so hooking to trees isn't an option. There are frames but seem expensive. Since I have a balance issue I would like to try one in a store and see if the swinging bothers me. Still didn't see how you made the coffee. You were too far away and I couldn't hear you. I am wondering if a French press would be worth the investment?

WATCHING YOURS AND OTHERS ADVENTURES, THESE FLAWS ARE SO EASY TO ID EARLY ON AND WOULD MAKE THE PRODUCT PERFORM FLAWLESSLY IF BETTER INPUT AND DESIGN WERE CONSIDERED. IT BAFFLES MY MIND. THE MANY COMPANIES I WORKED FOR DID IT REPEATEDLY. THEY FELL OVER THEMSELVES AND THEIR R&D BRILLIANCE ONLY TO FIND THAT WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS IDEAL WAS FAR FROM IT. No need to respond. CHEERS
