You're very lucky to have help that willing to get out there and lay in the snowbanks with you. When you work alone it takes a lot of mental discipline to get out there in the cold and get the job done.

Mike. Look into ground heaters. It’s essentially a garden hose that has heated glycol pumped through it. You lay it on the ground and cover it over with concrete blankets. After you pour your concrete and it sets you use the same heaters to keep the concrete warm enough to side correctly. They work great. Poured 1000s of yards of concrete well below freezing with that setup.

Hi Mike, I am an old truck driver. When you come in off the road like going up north do not just park the truck. I know you're tired and want to go home to get out of the cold but you have to drive it around and use the brakes for a time and they will dry out and the next day they will unlock better and if you do that for at least 15 or 20 minutes you will have no trouble at all. I would drive around the truck stop like they would laugh at me but the next day when they were under the truck and trailer trying to get going, I was gone.

Mike, I understand you needing a break. I figured you guys would take most of the winter off when I first started watching your show. Boy, was I wrong! Your perseverance in absolutely bonkers conditions is very admirable. When I am feeling sorry for myself about how cold it is here, I'll always have re-runs to goad me into walking outside 👍 This from a very pampered 38th parallel, mid-westerner's perspective. You should take your break, before lack of rest breaks you! You're no machine! God bless and Merry Christmas 🙏🏻

Pretty sure you can buy heating cables that you put into your concrete to heat it from the inside. Try looking for Concrete curing cable or something like that. It really just needs to help it to start curing so it creates its own heat then you can use something to insulate the slab while it hardens.

I'll pass along something I did when I lived up north years ago and that I mentioned to Tony Fast a year or two ago. Find an army surplus store and buy one or two parachutes to create a shelter around engines or axles that are frozen. Stick a tiger torch under there and things will be warm in 10-15 minutes. Just make sure there's space so the torch doesn't light up the tarp!
@susanbarss4774 сағат бұрын
Hello Mike, instead of using a bar or hammer, use a tiger propane torch. Way faster and way easier. Also put a valve on your supply line behind glad hand Shut it off when you park and brakes will not dynamite. Just make sure you turn valve back on when you want to go. Have it on my trailers, works awesome.

Take it from a willy old veteran.. when caught out like that (it happens to the best of us).. find yourself one of those hefty 6 foot long pointy steel crow bars and pound that thing on the outside between each lug nut on the flat portion of your rims (that is in direct contact with the drum btw) works like a charm.. pounding around dust covers and lying on your back is for when all you have is a hammer.. just sayin

Question? If you were to block truck wheels when parking after long drive in rain or snow in cold weather and just not set your trailer or truck brakes. Let the air hold them until it doesn't would they still freeze or would this allow them to cool down enough so they wouldn't freeze?
@6by6by66 сағат бұрын
You should have had an air compressor setup that you plug into the trucks to keep them aired up.. We have ours setup along with power for block heaters and battery tender’s so all the bases are covered.. Work smarter Mike it’s not that hard & doesn’t take that much thought to be prepared even without some big shop.. a shipping container with power is all we use for our truck daily maintenance products.. IE oil, coolant, tire gauge, spare tire, distilled water, .. You OCD is failing you 😅

Totally get it if you want to take a break (from YT) for a while. Between harvest, balancing new projects, and spending time with the expanding family, you have to be exhausted. We all know winter time sucks in Sask (no better in Alberta 👎🏼) so there isn’t much to film in the off season. Maybe an update or two in the new year would be a good idea and “we’ll catch you on the flip.” Adios, Mike, mi amigo. 👋🏼 Edit: I see a huge shop capable of housing 3 Super Bs being built next summer. 😂🤣

Does nothing for you now, and I'm more than a little familiar with frozen drum brakes. Not a full solution, but most times a disk brake spec doesn't result in frozen brakes... Something to keep in mind on the next trailer spec! Post a vid if you can, if you can't, we'll view in the springtime.
