Great video, Derek! Best dog I ever had was 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/2 Lab. Purebreed both sides, a cross-the-fence "accidental" litter. My Teddy was the runt, and at 18 months he could put his paws on my shoulders and his jaw on top of my head, weighed in about 140. Ate me out of house and home LOL! Extraordinarily loyal & yet very friendly & playful. Best dog I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. He died about 30 years ago, and I still think about him almost every day. He was jet-black with real short fur like his Lab sire, and had a perfect classic Shepherd build from his dam. I still miss him something fierce.... ATB! Ron

Great vids, nice to see you embrace outdoors. Couple of tips from old guy, Many have same wood restrictions, I love wood smell, but you can modify stove for propane and such, military we used gas too, no creasote, also can use charcoal at night, heats longer, make sure ashes on bottom, to prevent burn through, Ely mukluks? BWCA Journal, and also Cliff Jacobson on Ytube look em up, the cold is measured by how many dogs you had to sleep with to stay warm

+bwillan No doubt man haha. Depends on how cold it is really. I wouldn't have last night, but because Sarge was with me I didn't let it get cold really in the tent. Lowest I think I let it get was 40. Typically I don't like to run it all night, but when its real cold, why not right? That's wy its there....otherwise I could just haul a tarp lol

< Max One of the best German Shepard's a man could ever have as a friend. We went every where together but when he reached 7 Hip Dysplasia started showing and the hiking became to much for him. At 13 he had a heart attack forcing me to put him down. It's been 20 years but I remember him like it was yesterday. It's rare to see the colors he had and the paper work I had on him was very long and from Germany. I found him the day his first owner was dropping him off at the Dog Shelter. He didn't spend 5 minutes there and I believe he thanked me by showing me so much love.
@sargefaria9 жыл бұрын
+K Singleton Great story bud. They are great dogs for sure, but certainly known for the hips going bad on them. Sarge is showing signs of it now at 8yo. That's why I don't take him out so much anymore. He does ok, but feel bad making him do it. RIP Max, sure he was an awesome dog.
@ksingleton1019 жыл бұрын
I was afraid of that when I saw him getting up. I put Max on Glucosamine or a form of it for dogs. One of the side affects is Heart Failure. Max only weighed 80lbs his entire life and I was hopping that would slow the progress of the Disease but it didn't. There was another medication I gave him but I can't remember the name of it. Max produced one litter of pups and I got one of them. His son, Bruno also had Hip Dysplasia and I refused to give him medication for it. He lived to be 13 also but his demise wasn't a heart attack it was his hips completely giving out. He woke up one morning unable to stand or walk. From what I understand it's a painful disease for them and I wish someone would find a cure for it. Dogs aren't complainers so it's hard to tell just how much pain they are in. I wish you all the luck with Sarge. He looks magnificent.
@sargefaria9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sir. Ya he isn't too bad really, but definitely shows signs of it now and then. He was 80lbs at like 5 months old haha. He is between 110-120 now, and has been for some time. Im sure that doesn't help things. He had/has issues with his ears (thought to be allergies to food), nothing has helped him at all, from different foods, raw diet etc... The only thing that has helped is steroid shots, though not good long term either obviously. Since....I just love him and try and give him the best life I can. We all die at some point I guess, so I try and make him happy ; )

Watched a lot of your videos over the years and enjoy them greatly. I'll pass along a tip, next time you roll up that chimney flap do it in the opposite direction that you did it in this video. In other words, roll it under instead of over. The way you did it here will allow it to catch rain and moisture. Rolling it under will allow it to shed water instead of catching it. It can be a bit more combersome to roll it under because it's not a natural motion but after a couple times you won't even think about it. Keep up the great work!
