Always keep your water next to your body when winter camping in low temperatures! You guys took quite a chance camping the Cranberry Wilderness in winter. One snow fall could easily put you at risk of two to four foot drifts and possibly not getting out with your life. Some bear hunters had to have food dropped in via helicopter a few years ago and you don’t have cell signals in there. Invest in some satellite phones or emergency devices if you plan future hiking adventures anywhere in the wilderness please!🇺🇸👍🤠🙏✝️

Great area ,best in the winter not so many people. Have been there many many times.Have done a few in a few feet of snow. Make a nice loop from 150 to cranberry river up to williams river and back to 150.Love the snow for critter tracks.

Precisely how I feel about winter hiking as well! I am especially looking forward to this winter as the trails in my area have been very over crowded this year and I may finally achieve some solitude once the temps drop. Thatnks for the suggestions, I haven't been back to cranberry since but I know I will revisit it at some point. Much more to explore there.

Two years ago I went to the Cranberry River for three days and two nights on a camping/fishing trip. I went down fisherman's trail to get to the river and also did the barefoot water crossing, but it was warm then :) Cranberry is a nice area and I would like to go back and do some exploring. Try carrying your water bottles upside down and the water will not freeze in the neck.

Thanks for the tip on the upside down water bottles, I've never heard that one! I am very much looking forward to visiting the area again. Cranberry is a magnificent place that doesn't seem to get much traffic, at least compared to other places in the area such as Dolly Sods. Next time I plan go to the northern area of the park.

I enjoyed this video. would like to see you do a gear vid of this trip. I am very interested in your tents. what is the make and model. they look very efficient

I plan to make a few videos of various gear load outs at the end of the summer season. I am busy now getting outside and going on trips! The light green tent is a Mountain Laurel Designs Cuben Fiber Duomid and the dark green tent is a Seek Outside BT2. Both tents are pyramid single pole shelters. Very lightweight yet stable and reliable in all weather conditions.

We have plans to make it back to Cranberry as soon as possible. We didn't get nearly enough time on this trip to see as much as we would have liked. I can see myself spending a whole lot of time out in those woods! A lot to explore and so much solitude out there.

Nice video and am planning a trip to Cranberry in early October. Curious what jacket and pants are you wearing for winter hiking? Thanks for posting a great video!
@christiandenniston71776 жыл бұрын
My pants are the Prana Brion and I believe Blake was wearing the Outdoor Research Ferrosi. We are both wearing Montbell Alpine Light Down Parkas.

What a great video of a wonderful place. I love the CW and we try to go down there as often as possible. Too bad the USFS doesn't keep the trail clean, like in the states out west! I guess that when they say, "Wild Wonderful WV" they mean it? LOL
@christiandenniston71777 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind comment! When it comes down to it I much prefer the trail and area to be left alone opposed to improvements being placed throughout. The CW is one of the most wild seeming natural areas in the East. I cannot wait to go back!
