Good job on figuring out the watering hole for the chickens. :) If there isn't a conveniently-placed puddle, you can use the new bridges to enclose and fence in a small part of a lake or river for the same effect. I don't think you need to restart, everything is mostly fine. One thing that would help: you could bomb your decorative hides, to get the dry hide back to make clothing out of instead. Also, you didn't get many mushrooms dried in time, so you will be dependent on hunting and buying food from traders; you will probably want to build a small pantry (unheated room protected by lots of rat traps) so that your raw and cooked food will stay below freezing and not be wasted to spoilage. Remember to delete that food stockpile that's out in the open, too. :) The "broad beans" notification for the cooking pot is misleading; it just needs any of the allowed vegetable types (e.g., fresh mushrooms work fine). Similarly, it will ask for "eels" if it doesn't have enough meat/fish, although it doesn't specifically need eels. Suggestion: use the gravel path for the floor in your workroom. It isn't pretty, but it doesn't get dirty. The kilns/bloomery/forge generate a LOT of dust/dirt, so the workroom will always be dirty if it has a real floor. Also, just put a window in instead of the torch; the torchlight will encourage people to hang out and socialize there at dawn/dusk. Re chickens: You will probably want the coop building fully enclosed to keep your chickens at least a bit warm, with a critter door so the chickens can get in and out (they can't use regular doors or barn doors except by player command). They also won't lay eggs unless they have beds in a closed room. You can feed them your flax grain and hayseed if you run out of hay.
