Thank you so much. You realize this is the only video I can find demo'ing this beast? Waiting on delivery right now. This video pretty much destroys the myth that vibrato on a fretted instrument doesn't work. This video made NS Design a sale. Wish there were a few more with more thought out performances.

With frets every tone is like an open string and simply sounds better. Also you need to press less the strings with fretted violin and you can use this saving to speed. Distorted fifths (powerchords) sound great when you have frets. The inability to play vibrato orglissando is also a myth. Actually I cannot discover any reason why not choose a fretted violin.

Hi Hennypenny, both lines are made in the Czech Republic. The CR line is NS's middle range line and has active electronics and fancier wood, while the NXT series has passive electronics.

Hi Robert, anyone who claims that vibrato on a fretted instrument doesn't work has never seen B.B. King play. I'd challenge anyone to play that expressively with vibrato.

Yamaha offers the Silent Violin in two basic versions for practicing at home. If you want to play at concerts, stay away from those and go for the SV-250. It's that simple. The NS Design not only sounds great, but also offers lots of advantages: rock-solid construction, better balance, MUCH BETTER tuners, and a more compact size. Plus, with the optional Balanced Shoulder Rest you won't have to use your chin to hold the violin.

If you want a simple electric violin, the Yamaha SV costs around US$720. The NS Design WAV costs US$600. If you need to play at concerts, the Yamaha SV-250 retails for $1800 while the NS Design goes for US$1200. If you need to travel or to play with loud instruments, I strongly recommend the NS Design violin. It offers solid tone and unmatched reliability. BTW, get the NS Balanced Shoulder Rest: works with every violin and it's a valuable accesory you'll use your entire life.

How do you remove the Body Reference Bout besides taking the out the screw? I noticed after removing the screw the bout seems to be held down by a small white/silver pin in the lower right hand corner? Thanks in advance, cheers!

Bowhold is a zero interressting matter. I've played 20 years with "normal" bowhold, but switched to the way Mark O'Connor holds; thumb under frog. And that's much better. If anybody invents an other new way to hold bow, go ahead.
