I have so many considerations for managing my plants this winter! I have everything from bubble wrap lined windows to temperature dependent space heaters and the use of appliances like my dryer or oven, if needed. I have a few humidifiers that I am being very careful with, seedling mats to add extra warmth to all the spaces, and hygrometers stationed about every foot or so in the larger areas for assistance. Nothing sits directly on the mats, except 2 trays, for my humidity loving plants, which hold some rocks and water. I will have to utilize emergency measures to get through most of January and February, maybe part of this month too, but I am prepared for that. Fans are running, lightly, for air movement. I also have UV lights… whew!😅😂. I never thought growing a few orchids would be such a challenge for Texas! The northern area of this state gets pretty cold in winter! Well, this is my second year growing, and I’m still learning what needs to be done but it’s a fun and challenging adventure, and I’m hoping to make it through to spring without losing anything. Wow what a great setup ! My biggest issue with keeping plants inside is the tedious back & forth of taking them outside to water.

Definitely agree with you that we can repot them as long as we can keep the temperature warm and stable AND they have active growing root tips! I tested this with a few of my Phals which I place inside my small ikea greenhouse, and they keep growing well 🥰 especially polychilos type of phals. However, when I did repot store bought phal during autumn last year, it was growing very slowly in response to the change and colder temperature 😅 but well, I didn't have greenhouse back then. So I just dont get any flowers, but getting good roots and leaves 🤣

@@FerratheFerret exactly! We can do it! It's not always ideal but if they are actively growing and you can keep them warm, it's doable! I'm going to wait till the spring 🥹 I have so many

I broke a cardinal rule and I'm wondering how it will turn out. After the last 2 hurricanes, I lose a number of the orchids that were mounted in the tree. It had been so hot, I just wasn't in the mood to go out there and climb up a ladder, remove dead orchids and mount some new ones. So I just did it two weeks ago. Terrible time of year, especially since we've had 2 big cold fronts since then. If they live, they live, if they die, they die.

@@michaelmccarthy4077 I understand that! After a certain point we just have to give into the conditions. In the beginning of the hobby we are overzealous, then over time it does turn into survival of the fittest! Hopefully they make it through the cooler temps!
