Pike is my all time favourite fresh water fish to catch, they fight like a freight train on small rivers! I'll never forget fishing a tight meander on the Duxford farm stretch of a Thames tributary with my gramp when I was about 12/13 years old and I caught a 10lb+ beast of a pike in the shallowest, narrowest stretch and it took 20 minutes to get him in, arms felt like a bus ran over them at the end and I had a smile like teh Cheshire cat! One of my all time top childhood memories!

Seems patchy on the predators,for sure its harder to find really productive Pike fishing with numbers nowadays .Many of the stillwaters are thrown over to Carp nowadays,but even the rivers seem a bit tougher . I think the water is cold,and the next week shows a lot of North Easterly winds which would not be the greatest direction in my opinion. Needs Westerly airflows and if you can find the winterised silver fish shoals you can bet the Pike will be close by as well...Just like Lions and the herds of the Serengeti plains..the pike should zone in on the baitfish at this time of year.

The pipes I think you are referring to, the ones made up into squares (?), are part of floating reed beds. In between there's a blanket of some material and the reeds are planted into it. Usually the pipes are filled with empty bottles with their tops screwed on so if the pipe leaks at all, the bottles will keep it floating. And that's my old friend Martin in the water on the end of the rope. Great fishery advice from him!

The same spots we fished in our youth that made for an exciting days fishing, we struggle with today. Not enough is done to keep the rivers free from pollution and heavy urbanisation in some areas. London plane Platanus Hispanica ( from Spain ), Got the London bit by being able to withstand pollution by shedding it's bark, London was/is very polluted. When I worked on the parks department inner London the tree gang used up chains on the saws in quick time. They were hitting shrapnel embedded in the trees from the blitz.

I helped some guys one winter do about the same thing to a "pay lake" or pay pond really but they call them pay lakes around the tri-state area, KY, Ohio, Indiana. The guys I helped serviced those areas mainly unless someone pays them to come to a different state and do that. But that time I helped them, they pulled out some pretty nice catfish, Blues, Flatheads and I think there was one real nice channel cat about 28 lbs or so, and then they got quite a few nice Carp, along with a few grass Carp. There was 3 lakes in that place, I helped them with one, course that was an all day job, just one, I think they eventually did all three lakes over a period of a week or so. But yeah that's pretty exciting just to see what comes out of a lake, I could only imagine what they took out of those other two lakes. I guess they have to do that here, to see how many more fish they can stock in a lake come the next spring or whatever. Well, they have to put in the books too what fish were in what lake and what have you.
@TAFishing Жыл бұрын
Stock checks in the UK are probably more important now than ever before as we have enormous predation, Otters,Cormorants,Signal Crayfish ,Abstraction(for new towns etc) and untold numbers of sewage discharges. You have to wonder if it is even worth restocking some places as the same thing happens all over again in a couple of years. I'm sure it must be similar in other countries as well.
@hensleyshobbies-doug7761 Жыл бұрын
@@TAFishing - yes sir, your probably right on all that, well I'm sure you are. I don't know about some of those paylakes, mainly because they are all ran differently, you know? Anyways, thanks buddy, I preciate it!

@TAFishing Жыл бұрын
If you look back a few years I did a film about how rivers had changed ,with some before-and-after type of pics,plus last year I filmed the sludge that seems to be covering the river bed on the Wye. Having filmed there and being a relative newcomer to the Wye even I could see the change in around 4/5 years which is an amazingly short span of time. I actually try to fish above any sewage treatment works if there is a major city near the river,but sometimes we don't get a choice. I also know how the inshore waters have been changed on the South coast with the estuaries having nothing like the fish it had 40 years ago.The TV film is telling anglers nothing we don't already know,but its good that it highlights it to the wider public who probably don't have a clue what has been changing under the surface. I would like to see an in-depth film of how they "treat" the sewage,straight from the sewer pipe into their "treatment" works..Might be graphic,but I think the public needs to know what happens to their goods after they flush the toilet etc. Maybe the next episode will cover that.

I worked for a sewage company , a pretty large one in the Birmingham area tankering sewage arround, 2800l at a time lol. So I know a little bit about some of the processes. I worked for them for 3 years and I learnt that in storm conditions they can discharge straight in to rivers . I'm pretty new to fishing, my son got me in to it last year. We have only been on the cannals so far , I'm hoping to get on to the river Severn this year when it's a bit warmer . I did see a programme once about a company that does pre packaged salad polluting a chalk river down south with chlorine I think it was , sewage is the worst but industry still does a fair bit of damage as well. Thanks for your reply , I look forward to seeing your videos every week .

@Rose.Of.Hizaki Жыл бұрын
Usually. The lake will belong to a club or a _'consortium'_ that will own or share other lakes on top of the one they are netting. The fish that don't go back will normally get moved on to a different water that they own. Sometimes excess fish might even be sold to other clubs so they can stock their own waters. Ive never heard of them being released into a river though. I dont think something like that would happen as they run the risk of transferring any diseases or illnesses they could have picked up while at the lake to other fish. Releasing them this way can also be agant the environmental agency rules/laws etc etc. The fish will definitely be found another home elsewhere though!

The plane tree is a resilient giant, growing up to 35 metres tall.The mottled olive, brown and grey bark breaks away in large flakes to reveal new cream-coloured bark underneath. This process cleanses the tree of pollution that has been stored in the outer bark. The plane tree is monoecious, which means that both the male and female ball-shaped flowers grow on the same tree. After pollination, female flowers develop into spiky fruits with dense clusters of seeds which are dispersed by wind during winter and spring. This fluff can cause respiratory problems in people.
