Hey Doc. It’s Mark here. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I really appreciate it. As do my team. And some of the guys commenting are our customers and I’m so pleased to read that they see Lanoguard exactly how we intended. Easy , quick and viable DIY solution that keeps your Landie as you want it underneath too. Also. That windscreen rust. Try using the Lanoguard moto grease , or ply it on thinly. Then blow a hairdryer over it to melt it into all the rusty bits. And see how you go. :). Thanks again. Cheers Doc. Mark.

Hey Doc! I use stainless nuts and bolts for my series for years now and there is no corrosion on the aluminium..I made little rings of polyurethane to fit under the washers so that the stainless does not come in contact with the alu. I use polyurethane pond layout foil. Works perfect! Greatings from the Netherlands.

That corrosion that's on your bulkhead is from the bolts for those brackets that hold the windscreen to the bulkhead, if you look at britanica on KZbin he explains the process of stopping it. I'd look into taking those off and replacing the gaskets also filling the bracket with sikaflex or similar and then rub that corrosion back as much as possible, then either apply a primer like buzzwelds Rust encapsulator or something like metaflux etc and then re painting. My Td5 has just started to corrode round that area so will be doing the above very soon.

Thanks for this radiator0 ! Having developed it for over 11 years and used it heavy trucks and sea port cranes etc, I’m so pleased we have been able to start to see consumers using it like myself on trucks and Landrover and cars. It’s just ideal for underbody’s and so simple as you say, but we can’t be the ones to say that really. Or not convincingly. It’s so nice to read your comments and know you’re experience is exactly what I was aiming to achieve. Thanks again. Mark, Lanoguard.

Another great video Doc, keep up the great work!! I just had my 2014 90 Puma wax oiled at Arkley 4x4 whilst they were doing my Alive stage 1 remap, a real good company to bear in mind. I too have noticed corrosion around the brackets that fit the windscreen to the bulkhead, I will be watching all the videos and paying close attention to all the reply’s! I have just completed my bespoke drawer system, look like it was factory made, I’m so pleased. Great work Doc. Kind regards Tony

It looks frightful and even with 60 seconds in the microwave it is like painting with honey, but you know it's going to form an excellent barrier. Just re watching this video. I bought a 2004 110 hardtop a few months ago. I had my bulkhead repaired as it was in a similar condition to yours. Windscreen out, and there was a decent sized hole there on the top of the bulkhead. Had the rust cut out and metal replaced. Despite the fact I thought it was bad, the Bodyshop said it wasn’t too bad really. I had the bulkhead seal replaced too and so now hopefully it should be good for a few more years. Wasn’t too expensive either so worth getting it done.

Unfortunately ACF 50 (and no other) liquid lubricant will stop galvanic corrosion. The noble metal will always ‘eat’ the less noble metal unless you can keep the 2 surfaces apart with a non-conductive membrane, I.e. rubber, silicone, plastic etc. especially just spraying around tightened bolts and washers will do nothing. The bulkhead should be stripped locally back to bare metal and appropriately treated with a anti-corrosion coating and repainted, and you should remover the bulkhead hinge bolts and use the openings to access the upper bulkhead and apply LanoGuard in there and up through the bottom of the bulkhead ‘A’ pillars using the wand. Buying a decent borescope will help you inspect the inside of the chassis and other hard to reach places and retreat if necessary. Hope this helps, certainly has kept the tin worm away from my 22 year old Wolf - Good Luck !
@thedoctorsgarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Steve - never knew that about galvanic corrosion! I really need to get in to that bulkhead- will be a summer job and great tip about a boroscope 🔎

That is the way to look after a Defender 👍. Another good point about getting under the chassis and doing some rust prevention is that an owner really gets to know about their vehicle.. As for the bulkhead not really much you can do with the rust but just keep trying to keep it at bay as much as possible like you are doing now, as we all know it's going to happen.. I would says as someone has already said in the comments, see if you can get the rust prevention wax into the bulkhead for maximum protection.. That really is one nice Defender that you have, definitely one to keep
@thedoctorsgarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adrian really appreciate your comment - going to try spray it in to that bulkhead!
@adrianharrison52083 жыл бұрын
@@thedoctorsgarage I have been thinking about this as I am in the process of restoring a series 3 land Rover myself right now and the bulkhead is shot. How about getting some waxy rust prevention and placing it inside that rubber seal? This way I though it would be good at preventing water building up in that spot in the first place and also when the sun comes out and warms the bulkhead up it may draw the wax in? That is how the water gets into those flanges in the first place by the sun heating up the bulkhead sucking the water in

I used lanoguard on my td5 90 for the first time last year, so much easier and cleaner than using the waxoyl I always used to use, and a year on it still beads the water when I wash the underneath, ive jetted the underneath this week and will apply another coat of lanoguard next week after it’s had time to dry out properly, I really like the product, it’ll be the only one I’ll use now moving forward.

I was looking at Lanoguard but in the end I had mine booked in for a Dinatrol treatment, wasn’t cheap but at least now I can relax and not worry for a couple more years. Also my door rubbers always freeze and I find using a silicone spray works really well so don’t have to spend ages trying to open my doors in Winter.

Mustie1 uses chain oil and kerosene. Blow it on with an underseal gun. I bought a lilltle Clark compressor for just this work, cost a princely £30 used. Look out for units used for nail guns. They are small and manoeuvreble, and give enough pressure..

Really interested to see how you get on. I’ve coated my Defender underside with Lanoguard for 2 years now after seeing positive reviews from Australia (at first it wasn’t available on the UK market and shipping was crazy money). I do the chassis twice per year and it seems like a good barrier product. I’m concerned about converting the rust - lots of science about this online. So far I’ve used the usual suspects Archoil, Dinatrol and u-Pol for conversion and coating. Nothing has actually stopped the rust (I live in salty / damp Scotland) but there’s no ‘control’ to compare it with. Rust can track underneath these and also, without an endoscope, I don’t know what’s happening inside the chassis. ACF 50 hasn’t lasted long unless it’s in a protected area. This is always a ghastly job, less so with the sheep oil!, and it’s not toxic but you still get covered in my experience. Of interest, I’ve spent less time rust proofing my Disco 4 and the rust seems to have progressed a little faster. Let’s compare in the spring!
