This book didn't feel like a slog read to me even though there were parts I didn't like I did like winter's heart

So glad you liked the end of this book. Books 8-10 (some include 7) are absolutely more slow-paced than others in the series, and some of the main storylines aren’t as loved universally (Perrin/Faile and Elayne/Sea Folk come to mind), and they could have been edited/compressed to improve the pacing. However, these books do a lot of heavy lifting setting up the awesomeness that is the final act of the series. They move the chess pieces where they need to be, progress our main characters’ personal growth, and explore many of the side characters’ and villains’ motivations. In book 11, RJ returns to form with the action again, and obviously Brando Sando moves things along like an avalanche. Excited to see what you think of the remaining volumes and vicariously relive experiencing the story again for the first time.

I am very excited for your point of the series being ready to progress towards the ending once all the pieces are in place 😄 I trust the combination of RJ & Sanderson to produce a truly amazing conclusion!

Great video as always! I never personally struggled with any books in the “slog” but a lot of people seem to find Book 10 the most difficult so i’m interested to find out what you think. The good thing is Book 11 is amazing as a reward for getting there!

Thank you! 😊 I don't think the slog has been terrible by any means, but I do 100% see its existence and the fact that these books are slower compared to the earlier ones. Really looking forward to book 11 though!!

Elaynes becoming the queen storyline is the most annoying and selfish of the bunch. Instead of taking the throne with Rands support she destabilized her own country at the worst time for pride. Her character was fun, but now I can't emphasize with her struggle because it's all of her own making.
@GraceDionneReads2 жыл бұрын
I understand your point here and I think I can see this from both sides. At first I thought the same thing, why won’t she accept help? But I know that from the outside, the people of Andor are likely not to see it that way, and then everything might go to shit for lack of a better phrase 😂

@@GraceDionneReads yes, you're right, but that also emphasizes the point - Destabilize my country to increase the legitimacy of my power, or take a peaceful transition and risk having to do much more to win public opinion?

Wheel of Time was Great. Grace. You see that light there? It's the end of the slog! Keep pushing! Mat is great. Favorite character easiy. Personally, I hated everything to do with Seanchan, Tuon included. Personalities were fueled and saturated with pigheadedness to the point of utter annoyance.
@GraceDionneReads2 жыл бұрын
Hahah I can see the light at the end! So close 😊 also I completely agree with what you’re saying about the Seanchan but I suppose it just doesn’t bother me that way! I think that’s completely valid though

@@GraceDionneReads Don't get me wrong. Interesting culture and all. I still hate them. Even after reading the entire series. I hate them. But the light is coming forth, just like a tunnel filled with an iron freight train.

I'm halfway through crossroads. Most of the slog has been enjoyable, especially book 7 which some people include. But I am struggling with Parrin still. Hopefully he gets some character development soon. I hate a lot of the Matt stuff when he is a forced lover. It just goes on too long. But I think RJ had to slow the pacing or it would seem like an inevitable march to victory for the heroes . Everything at this point seems like it's out of control and even daily living is difficult

Yeah I agree with your takes here! The series does get pretty chaotic around this period, and I didn’t love Perrin or Mat’s storylines as much either, but they came around

I like Tuon and glad u finally get o meet her. I think it's this boom where Mat complains about all the lace.. And then finds himself complaining about not enough lace later lol. Glad you enjoyed this book. Look forward to your thoughts on the remainders

I feel like Tuon has so much potential!! And that’s definitely this book lol, what a guy Mat is

Mat is my favorite character too. He was always fun to read. It was interesting hearing your thoughts on Winter's Heart. It's been awhile since I read the books so your review is jogging my memory. I remember always liking the book, especially compared to Path of Daggers.
@GraceDionneReads2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think looking back I prefer this book compared to Path of Daggers, especially on the strength of the ending! Mat is awesome 😄

Ah yes, Mat is GOAT. Love him the mostest :-) And Sando made him even better somehow, IMO. Unpopular opinion I know but tis what tis - enjoy the ride into the end mate! Next one can be a bit meh for some ppl but apart from that you're up to some of the greatest story telling / writing that ever has been so, enjoy :-)

Hahaha I’ve just finished Crossroads of Twilight within the last week and “meh” is definitely the word for it. However I am ready for the ride to the finish line starting with book 11 😄
