Winter Series 2019-20: Rumpke McNeilus REL

In this video, we have a truck I was pretty excited to film because it was the first time I was able to film Rumpke. They have had a shop up in Cleveland for quite a few years now, but they don't have a ton of work down this way. They recently got the contract for the Village of Doylestown, so I went over there the Saturday after Christmas to see what I could find.
This combo, the International/ McNeilus Tag Axle rear loader with right side drive, is a staple of the Rumpke fleet across the company. When I think of Rumpke, this is the combo that comes to mind. Judging by the number retaliative to other trucks I've seen on here, this is actually one of the newest units in the fleet.
I hope you guys enjoy the video, it made for a nice change of pace from Republic/Kimble. I also have another video of a Mack LE/ McNeilus conventional front loader to be uploaded at a later time. Recycling was being collected by a Mack LEU/ McNeilus conventional front loader as well.

Used to work for Rumpke as a tipper (the guy on the back of the truck), it was a pretty interesting experience and probably would go back if I really needed work but going in at 3-4am was killing me lol.

@@rws676 I bet. My aunt and uncles house has their trash collected by the city of Columbus and their recycling is single stream by Rumpke. Great find brother

Yeah Central Ohio Refuse has some good videos of them picking up recycling in Columbus. I guess they worked out a deal with the city where the city does all the trash and Rumpke does all the recycle and yard waste

Awesome to see some Rumpke from you! You’re right, this is their staple truck, and it seems like it always has been. I’m surprised they’re still buying as many RL’s as they are with having carts at most places. Nicely done!

Thank you, I was super happy to finally be able to film them. They have quite a few Curottos like everyone else now, and that seems to be the direction they are headed, but they are an old-school company to an extent and I don't see them ever fully getting away from their beloved combo.

Rumpke bought out Landmark Disposal in Cleveland around 2011 or so. Are Akron and Cuyahoga Falls the only city run operations in Summit County?

Yessir, these trucks are ran out of the old Landmark facility. Yep, Akron and Cuyahoga Falls are the only ones left. Kimble has Barberton, Boston Township, Clinton, Green, Stow, Silver Lake, and Twinsburg Township. WM has Twinsburg City. Republic has northwest Akron, Copley, Coventry, Hudson, Lakemore, New Franklin, Norton, Peninsula, Springfield, and Tallmadge. Their Cleveland shop also has Macedonia. Rumpke has Bath.

@@rws676 Hudson I thought was open market. AA Sanitation does a lot down in Hudson. As far as I know the City of Hudson besides 303 and 91 can barely even plow the streets.

@@rws676 We have Republic here in Fairview Park (Cleveland) frankly I don't care for them and I would like our city to throw them out, but Fairview hasn't been under best management for the past decade.

@@rws676 AA Sanitation runs a 31 yard Mack EZ Pack Goliath which is kind of a rare truck, and it's red with a white stripe down the side of it, could that have possible at one point in time an City of Stow unit? It's probably a 1990s model year if I had to guess. Here in Cuyahoga County Waste Management has very little Maple Heights and 7 Hills and I wonder how long that will go Waste Management Cleveland doesn't even bid on anything. Republic has a handful of stuff and Kimbal has most of the east side suburbs, well Mayfield and South Euclid. Because Rocky River, Lakewood, City of Cleveland, Valley View, Independence, Cuyahoga Heights, Pepper Pike, Lyndhurst, Beachwood, Cleveland Heights, Woodmere, Solon, Moreland Hills, University Heights and Shaker Heights are all city run operations. We still have a lot of city run operations in Cuyahoga County which is good the city run operations are way more fun to watch.

@@M22OHIO yeah Republic is the preferred hauler for Hudson and we have about 85% of the city but AA does have some work in there.I've seen the truck you are talking about, it is newer to them but not sure where it came from. And yeah Cuyahoga county is a different animal, a lot more city departments for sure.

@@rws676Yeah Kimble does Euclid, Willowick, and Wickliffe. It's just a little bit farther than Eastlake. I went over that way and tried one day but I drove around for awhile but couldn't find any truck, but I want to get over there again.

Rumpke comes in and undercuts your local garbage carrier. And then the gouging starts. If you really are serious about separating the different types of garbage, soon they start charging you extra for having too many cans. However... You can't do the type of separation they ask you to do without at least four can. Then there is the different confusing rules between the recycle and regular garbage. You can't have plastic in this one buy you need plastic bags in this... It's such a hassle that one of our smaller in city municipalities have gone back to the old garbage people, and get much better service...
