Legendary filmmaker Nicolas Roeg is put under the St. Clement's spotlight by the also legendary Jarvis Cocker to talk about 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' (1976), Roeg's seminal film staring David Bowie (who is also very legendary). From sex, to drugs and a hint of rock and roll, Shuffle Festival gets to hear from the man himself on the influences behind the sic-fi flick.

I happened by chance to walk into the Tower Records store on Sunset in Hollywood with the lights and cables running along the floors and saw Rip Torn doing his part for the film going through the record bins. Didn't know it was for The Man Who Fell to Earth until the film came out and i saw it. Deja vu.

Cocker missed out on asking Mr. Roeg on his choice of locations due to the nature of the film's main character, being an alien. Roswell New Mexico. This was filmed in early/mid seventies and the modern MSM' interest in the Alien Roswell incident wasn't given a new life until 1977 ,since it's original reporting back in July 1947. I would wonder if Nicolas Roeg was aware of original Roswell reporting about crashed UFO in summer of 1947 in Roswell,New Mexico. If yes as it was an almost forgotten story during the early 70s , after the U S. Military claimed it was just a weather balloon. It was until 1977 when an Army Intelligence Officer, claimed the debris was from UFO, to which the M.I.C. unclassified 'Project Mogul' top secret U S. Spy Balloon as explanation and attempt to debunk crashed UFO theory. What made him select the location of Roswell for his alien's landing scenes. Had he done his own research into 'Roswell' during his research into Aliens. I just thing it's a pretty important aspect of The Man Who Fell To Earth, that nobody ever raises.
