I read somewhere one time that between the books of the prophets in the old testament and the new testament that it was 400 years since anyone had heard from God. Isn't it amazing that after 400 years the next we hear from God is in a baby crying in the night.

It's a beautiful song that's so comforting. It also reminds me that Jesus was our example of how to be with others...gentle, loving, and humble... He came to save, not to condemn. What a loving friend.

God the Father spoke to me. I was sitting alone on my friends covered porch smoking cigars on a hot Texas day. A storm blew in right by me. Thunder crashed as rain fell. I cheered it on. Then it all stopped and I said aloud "Thank you Father" and HE responded "I thought you'd like that". HE knew I'd like it but said "I thought". After HE made a storm for me HE was humble to me. HIS voice wasn't loud, was like a whisper. Whispered to a sinner like me.

I love this song. I’m a Christian singer/songwriter. When I listen to music, particularly vocals, I immerse myself totally and when a piece really touches me, I joke that I wish I’d written it! This is one of those songs. I love the poetry of the lyrics and the sensitive vocals. Someone commented that Ms. Assaud didn’t have much of a range - I found this odd. She’s a troubadour- telling a story - and belting out the high notes would’ve been, in my opinion, counter-intuitive to what the song needed. Singers with a lot of range can be impressive, if that’s what you’re there to hear. Her vocals in this song have nothing to do with showing off her ‘skills’; her vocals are there to ‘show off’ Jesus, the Word, who created all things with the Father & Holy Spirit. God’s plan to save humanity was built on patience, and grace and was done quietly, with humility and love. The plan unfolded in a way totally different than expected: a King born into poverty, not wealth, angels appearing before lowly shepherds, not royalty. Like winter snow instead of sunshine as an example. But her vocal control and perfect pitch enabled me, a pretty critical listener, to be captivated from the beginning. I’ve been blabbing a lot, which I do when I’m passionate about things (sorry), but I need say something more: As a singer/actress, I’ve traveled all over the US and Europe performing in all sorts of venues: from military bases, secular schools to churches of every size and denomination. I have toured with Methodists, Baptist’s, Lutherans, liberals and fundamentalists both, and Catholics to name a few. Everyone of them had deep faith in Jesus and were obedient servants who sacrificed, in some cases, ‘successful’, money-making lifestyles to serve God full time. One thing united us, though we were all different people, with our own different views and worship styles: we all believed and followed Jesus. It is dishonoring to Him to argue over things that are not ours to judge. And to do it as a beautiful offering to God has just been shared. Unfortunately, Satan is the Liar and Accuser. And when we start cutting away at each other, we are allowing him to use us for evil and not for good. A final story: there was this one performance we had. It was for a Metropolitan church, which we learned was the name used for churches with gay/lesbian pastors and congregations, including trans people as well. We were all a bit concerned when we realized who we were performing for. This was in the late 90’s, I think, before all the other ‘gender’ distinctions were part of the USA’s culture. Anyway, I was quite nervous, because only a few years before this, my husband, someone I believed shared my faith in Jesus, left me and our then ten yr old daughter for a man. It was a huge shock that left me reeling for a long time. I didn’t know if I was up for this as a result, even though we were exhorted to serve anywhere God called us. I was told I could bow out of the service, but I knew it wouldn’t be right on so many levels to leave my team in the lurch, so I vowed to be there. It was odd being there - sometimes I would see someone ‘transitioning’ and I didn’t know if they were intending to be a man or a woman. But. During our first song, I was praying to God while singing, about how to connect with this audience. Was it okay that we were there at all? What did He want me to do? Well, as I am singing, I heard God speak. I thought it could be heard by everyone at first, it was so THERE - so real to me. I heard Him say to me: “It’s not your job to decide who is going to heaven and who is not, who is ‘good’ and who is ‘bad’. That’s MY job. Your job is to love each and every person you meet, regardless of who they are. And that’s a difficult skill all by itself, for you.” I was so struck by those simple but profound words: they were supported by scripture, they confirmed God’s truth and character and I felt no condemnation in the words. What I felt was profound relief. I felt God had freed me from the shackles of prejudice and hate. He was, in effect, showing me that He was in charge so I didn’t have to be. He was sovereign and I had been so close to stumbling because of my preconceived notions - and because I didn’t go to Him first, listening only to other flawed humans like me. Afterwards, while driving to another show, my team was amazed at the transformation in me that they saw after that first song. They were all so tense, which I had been at first. But they saw me relax, smile, hug, laugh and love on the people there. I told them what happened and I think it turned out to be life-changing for all of us. God is good. God is in charge. We are to trust Him and not be divisive with each other. “Love one another for God is Love.”

Verse 1 Could’ve come like a mighty storm with all the strength of a hurricane You could’ve come like a forest fire with the power of heaven in your flame Chorus But you came like a winter snow quiet and soft and slow Falling from the sky in the night to the earth below Verse 2 Could’ve swept in like a tidal wave or an ocean to ravish our hearts You could have come through like a roaring flood to wipe away the things we’ve scarred Bridge No, your voice wasn’t in a bush burning No, your voice wasn’t in a rushing wind It was still, it was small, it was hidden

That was beautiful. I especially liked the part...your voice wasn't in rushing wind.....it was still, it was small, it was hidden.....then the picture of baby Jesus. Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire; And after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:12
