If you try again. Put weed cloth in bottom of the big container to keep the slugs from coming through the drain holes.

Don't be embarrassed, this is totally relatable! We've all had failures in gardening, it's just part of it! My winter sowing last year was incredible, this year only a few successes. Love your honesty and humor!

Being willing to experiment with plants or cooking leads us to great success if we are willing to chance failure. We learn the most from our failures. What not to do leads us to what we should try instead. You are fantastic. We all appreciate your honesty as it only makes us trust you more. I love it. You are adorable! Keep on keeping on!

Oh my heart! I feel so bad for your hubby! I had great results in both the jugs and bags. A couple hundred. I got a little carried away watching y’all’s videos! Now I need to get them all planted. My struggle is keeping them all watered, since they are all opened up, until I can get them in the ground. Oy! Thank you for your joyful inspiration 😊

I’m in VA and I just leave my jugs outside no matter what. They don’t need our help or meddling imo

For me it was knowing I couldn’t afford to buy plants and I wanted a garden so bad so I decided to meddle. It worked and I had plants but felt I should’ve trusted the process more.

Kim this video made my day! I am sorry that your winter sowing results weren't what you expected but I'm so glad you can find humour in it, when you said 'I want some salad, don't you?' I couldn't stop laughing 🤣 you inspired me to start winter sowing earlier this year, it's not as popular here in the UK but I will definitely be repeating it as the results speak for themselves!

I LOVE THIS!!!! Thank you for laughing with me. If only I would have recorded my reaction when I came home and realized...I laughed so hard. Like really Kim :-) So please tell me what all you tried this year. How are your temps and what is your growing season like? I want to hear all about your results. Thank you for watching.

@@thesoutherndaisyllc I did campanula, lupins, foxgloves, hollyhocks and rudbeckia and they’ve all come up and looking glorious, we don’t have the big milk jugs here so I’ve made makeshift containers out of upturned clear meat trays and duct tape 😂 like you I also babied them a little and was scared to leave them out in any frosts! Our spring this year has been super cold and we got some really harsh frosts in December which set a lot of things back for everyone, we are about 3 weeks behind where we were last year in terms of temps, but we are approaching last frost dates now so all hands are go with getting stuff out - exciting! 🎉

You are such a champion! I felt so bad for your loss in the beginning but you pepped right up and the show went on! I'm so excited to try winter sowing this year and think I will add mosquito netting around mine since I'm in Oklahoma. I'm thankful that you had some set backs as they were very helpful lessons in what can go wrong.

On the winter sowing Facebook page but I left because everyone got mad at me when I would tell them never to sow hot weather seeds like Mexican sunflowers or peppers in Winter.. they are hot climate seeds and there is no advantage to Winter sowing but there is severe risk of losing them to a late frost. Unless a seed requires weeks of cold stratification sow indoors or wait until spring is warm.

Listen, I feel that what makes us all great people is our experience and opinions. I will never get mad at anyone over them saying they don’t think things should be done or not done a certain way. Trial, error, and experimenting is my jam! We all have to do what works best for each of us. I discovered Mexican Sunflowers when I tried WS for the first time. Grabbed a few packs of seeds and that was one and it worked beautifully. I started peppers last year in my jugs and they did great also. I am sorry that people were mean to you for sharing your experience and knowledge. Glad it didn’t deter you from coming my way 😊

Only what if the others would have sprouted while they were in the greenhouse... I think this should be redone, even though I believe the jugs would still win. Thank you for the fun video 🌞

@@thesoutherndaisyllc I'm expressing that there were so many factors that could have caused sprouting to not occured since they were moved so many times and in and out of conditions that maybe the outcome would have been better for all of the methods if they were left in one place outside. Moving them really can cause the seeds to be disturbed or moved and no longer germinate. I would love to see a round 2 this next winter sowing season, do you think you might?

I feel ya on this. I am not following why you moved them inside when it got cold. Isnt the purpose the ability to leave winter sowing to leave them out all winter?

I've had pretty good luck with the bags. I like the jugs better because they don't collapse on themselves like the bags do but I was so limited on jugs and wanted to plant more seeds. Good problem to have in my opinion 😊

Might as well laugh and keep on going😊. This is my first time winter sowing w so-so results. I am having better luck with sowing seeds in pots. Great germination rates. I do move them in and out of the garage. But I look at it as an experiment. Keep the videos coming.

Your winter sowing actually looks better than mine. 😂 Out of over 30 jugs, I had maybe 5 sparsely survive. Not thrive.. haha Below freezing to 90° temps back to below freezing really put a strain on my seedlings. 😢 Im not giving up either, though! Im now battling many many squirrels. Idk where they've come from. Its ridiculous!

It’s been tough with extreme temperatures this year. Many had failure in large tubs. If you weren’t able to babysit them they dried up, fried, rotted, ect. The zip lock off brand bags, the zipper quit working and used disposable bowls with drain holes and only a couple are showing life. The jugs are coming along slowly, but with the weather we had I’m surprised to have anything. Lol, I know exactly how you and your husband felt when you asked him to tend to your plants😅. Cooked lettuce anyone? As I speak our temp alarm is going off for chicks and the man isn’t here. If I don’t run to tend to them-cooked chicken anyone?😅. Good thing you had plants and not chickens.😊 Hooray! Time to get to work as Spring has Sprung!🌷🪻🌹

But the experiment would have worked so much better if you hadn't had to go to California.😢😮😅. Maybe try again next year, same time, same plants, but stay home to officiate the procedure. Think I will try this method next winter and we can compare. I live in Wirral, n.w. England. Best of luck.❤
