I'm doing my first winter sow of around 100 jugs and 80 species. I'm trying promix hp for the majority then topping with dry sand to make a level layer to get the seed set and good contact then i wet the sand with a mist and add more dry sand to get the seed covered to the right depth. I go by the seed size and try cover to the same size as the seed and if its small i surface sow knowing it will settle in. I also use for some of the bigger seed a top mulch of chicken grit, thinly spread to help no have alge and to act as a head sink and help moderate the promix from becoming too wet or too dry. Im using clear 4L water jugs that I use distilled water for coffee machines and kettle to keep from scaling. I use the same water to wet the promix because it's not chlorinated. Used 5 jugs for 80 winter sow jugs. I also made all the holes using a cheap soldering iron, helps to make fast small and clean holes for drainage. Im putting them on my deck and tied them down from the handles. It only gets mid to late day sun. Fingers crossed. Im going to up pot into coffee cups to give away. ❤ im in search of golden nuggets lf info from people like your self that are doing this at a crazy level like 800 pots. Im also doing alot of trees but in air prune containers and pots.

That's awesome! I've never done winter sowing (let alone in jugs). Good luck to you!
