The bottles with salt water is clever, thanks for sharing!! Ps: i just xame across a method of digging a hole past tge frost line, set a box that holds the water bowl atop, insulate the inner rim up to tge hole of the box, no frozen water. Ill try this vome spring, but the saltwater bottles will hold me over till then. Thank you so much for sharing

That’s really interesting! This year I got insulated foam from Walmart, that attaches the part you turn the hose on, attached to the house and that helps it not to freeze. The hose itself does still freeze so I just fill up 5 gallon buckets and make a few trips.

I used to use those black containers but I heard they can contain lead, not sure it's true but I switched anyway. I use a metal mixing bowl now, it is easier to empty because of its' shape.

I’ve never heard that 😮

This great science. Thank you for sharing your outstanding knowleged with all of us city folks. I am grateful. I can apply this for my outdoor cats. I use metal bowls for my cats. I bring the bowls in for several hours after they have been outside all day to warm to room temperature. I have thought of using wooden containers science they are a poor conductor of transferring heat. What are your thoughts? Do you ever warm up the water first on the stove?

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ve never heard of that about wooden bowls, so interesting! I dump out the frozen water and refill it with warm water. I don’t usually heat there water up on the stove, but I have when we lost electricity during a blizzard.
