You have no idea how long I have spent -I would say the beginning of September until now, Not only planning but actually trying to implement my plans and to put it kindly (for myself). It has not been going well! In Pittsburgh today, There is a little bit of snow fall but later this week We should jump back up near 50. But today these girls gotta be cold! So I'm going to scratch all of my work and my previous planning and go with your simple, effective, Yet brilliantly obvious method instead. Goal is to have it done within a few hours now. I just want to thank you again. I'm genuinely kicking myself in the butt for not thinking of it myself. Sometimes over planning can kill good intentions, lesson learned! 🙏

I like the idea of reusing the plastic and having everything labeled and ready to use. Your yard is a lovely oasis.

Best chicken winterizing idea ever! ❤️ It!!!! Implementing it! I did mines by wrapping plastic sheeting around my run. I thought of panels but just d in d something quick so the birds had some protection before I got busy. I can work on my our idea one panel at a time and use indefinitely. ❤️

I've hit the jack-pot getting ideas for my first time to winterize my chicken run up in MA. Thank you so very much!!!! I love the over all approach of using tarp sheets and how you have personalized your run!!! It is so cozy too. Andrea

This is a great idea, I'll prep our small coop now before our first frost and colder winds. I was going to use insulation panels too but the chickens peck at the foam board I I may need to figure something else as the plastic sheet isn't always enough.

I wonder how this is holding up. In my experience (with a different application), the plastic eventually becomes brittle due to sun/weather exposure and it begins to tear easily. Have you had to replace the plastic?

My plastic still seems like it’s as fresh as the day I bought it maybe it’s because of how thick it is.

Thanks for the great idea on how to reuse, I didn't want to trash the plastic each year! First winter with chickens (north metro TC), and ready to wrap the run!

Very nice. We have our chicken and rabbit runs wrapped in plastic as well, but the re-usable rollup panels are what we were going towards. Your method is simple and effective. We are new subs to your channel and we are in Northern Ontario so it gets cold. Thanks for this.

I love your hutch. I also have a bunbun that I want to live with the chickens but could never really figure what to add inside so it benefits both chickens and bunny. Your hutch gave me some inspiration. 💜

Sick setup!! 😍 Good ideas I can use for brutal VT winters. We're building a mobile greenhouse, and I want to be able to put the chickens to work and utilize them this winter ✌️❤️

I do the same on my coop and run. It keeps the snow out and is a slight bit warmer. To water my chickens I use a 1 gallon (4 litre) heated dog dish sometimes I use 2 depending on how many chickens I have. Your system is quite nice I just staple up the plastic and put some slats across it so the wind doesn't rip it off.

Nice job labeling the various parts of your panels, but you mention using the same holes next year when you put them up. You might consider writing 'top' on all four side panels so that you can avoid putting them on upside-down next year (in which case your screw holes would not match up) Great to see anything from The Cities! I grew up in Blaine on the north side of Minneapolis

I wonder does it get much condensation? Also how do the chickens mind not being able to see out?
@TwinCitiesAdventures
@TwinCitiesAdventures Жыл бұрын
First of all, we don’t get any condensation because I did end up cutting it down a couple inches around the top. Every year after that I ended up having some more airflow in random spots because it’s and the tunnel going into the henhouse is a little weird because of the grapevines. Plus, we also built a three season porch off the backside. Living in Minnesota you have to do what you have to do hanging up stingless windows in my chicken run was definitely fun for me and hopefully the chickens

Im from southern Wisconsin so we share about the same weather . How much ventilation do you give your chickens in the winter to keep dust down ?
@TwinCitiesAdventures
@TwinCitiesAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
I took a razor and I cut a couple inches of plastic away on the top middle sections, other than that there’s a lot of cracks that the air blows through especially in the tunnel going into the henhouse.

I also have my rabbit in a hutch inside of the chicken run, but I did not know that you could let rabbits out onto the run floor with chickens. I was afraid my rabbit would get sick. Do you let your rabbit out in the run with your chickens? If so has there been any squabbles with the Bunny and the chickens or illness? If I can I would love to be able to let her run around in the chicken run.

You don’t use any heater? I’m new to backyard chicken. The staff at our Tractor Supply store here in Prescott WI near Minnesota are saying I should use heat lamp but I have also heard from people that said there is no need for that. I’m not sure what to do.
@TwinCitiesAdventures
@TwinCitiesAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
No, do not use a heat source because chickens do not need heat. They do need shelter from wind chill though, so if you block the wind, they will be safe. They do not need heat. I have a metal roof on my chicken run so after I wrap it in plastic it acts like a greenhouse and produces enough heat by itself even though they don’t need it.

Hey there! I really like raising chickens, so i have hatched 5 baby chickens recently, they still little. But I'm so don't know anything about the laws here, I don't know if I can really raise them.
