Wintertime BFS Crappie Slabfest No Electronics

This video is from early January. We are fishing a swamp lake in the upper delta. The initial target was bass but that did not work out so I decided to whip out the old faithful BFS combo and target some crappie, and boy did we find them. The lure used in this video is the Zman Shad Fryz and the Zman micro finesse head.

Thanks! Yeah me too, it’s nice fishing all day and never breaking a sweat, no gnats and mosquitos. It’s hard to wake up early when it’s freezing out but it’s worth it.

Hey man! Looking for some guidance, I have a BFS setup, and am used to bait casters, but cant seem to get this lined out so that every other cast im not fixing a birds nest. Any pointers?

Hey buddy, I’m using the Curado BFS so my tips will be what has helped me for that reel… First make sure the rod you are using has a pretty whippy tip that will help in throwing light baits. If the tip is too stiff you may be having to overcompensate by how hard you are throwing and that could be leading to over runs. The BFS reels are not advertised to hold a lot of line. Usually 30-40yds max. Make sure you are not over spooling. You should be able to see around 1/8” of the spool after it’s filled. I had to measure out the line my first time spooling so I didn’t over fill. If the spool is overfilled it can cause over runs. I also run my mag break wheel pretty high on bfs. The 4/5 and 8/10 range. Hopefully these tips help out. You should be able to throw 1/16oz or heavier without much difficulty. 1/32 is where it gets tricky and you have to throw it carefully.
