Berkin thank you so much for this!! I remember this well from their New Haven show in 1974, starting with this instrumental, with Steve Winwood switching instruments. No Reebop in the US though - just the original 3 with Rosko Gee. By the late 70s I became a performing musician myself, also playing guitar and keys. And inspired by this Traffic instrumental show opener, I began my own shows in exactly the same way for several years. But I never heard this actual song again since that show in 1974 - until now!! Thanks again. It was as good as I remembered. J

Very nice jazzy jam. ❤️Steve’s 🎸🎸🎸🎸 solo & Chris’s moody saxophone 🎷. It’s all good & doesn’t disappoint 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼❤️ Traffic!

Saw the tour at Portsmouth Guildhall and this workout opened the show as I remember the hypnotic beat all these years later. Several tunes in Steve introduced "a new song by Chris called 'Vulcan' and he's going to say a bit about it .... no he's not!" Or words to that effect. Funny how you recall these asides. Now at least I can hear 'Vulcan' on record and it's been worth the 40 year wait.

Great sound quality. I saw the band around this time supported by Richard Thompson's band 'Sour Grapes', but I don't remember this instrumental. I do recall the band all being on great form. As a side note, a three piece band called The Hamsters, who performed superb Jimi Hendrix Experience and Z Z Top covers, used to play a showpiece number in which they all swapped instruments about three times!

People speaking of lack-of-power in TRAFFIC of '74 really ought to give this a listen!

Fantastic. Wish I could have seen this lineup perform.

Yes they swapped mid jam and throughout the set, especially Chris between sax, flute and organ. Dream Gerrard was inspired and You could hear a pin drop on Barleycorn. Chris was on great form that night.

I saw them on this tour. They opened with this jam at Newcastle City Hall. Don't think it has a name. I was in the front row. Vulcan was brilliant too.

Yep. Caught them just in time. But I don't remember this one.

Yes they swapped instruments mid jam and throughout the whole set. I recall Chris playing alternative sax & flute too. Great version of Dream Gerrard that went on and on, they were on great form, especially Chris.

Also, upon listening, pretty much the same rhythm pattern as "Feelin' Good".

It sounds to me like Chris was playing a real piano on the 1st half, and Steve was playing an electric piano or synth for the 2nd.

Stuart, do you recall them swapping instruments during the tune! Clearly, that's what's happening here! Can you confirm?

Thanks for posting this.......all my tapes from 1974 have this listed as "instrumental". Does this composition actually have a name?
@WinwoodCompletist9 жыл бұрын
Well, on many bootlegs, it is referred to as "a little daft music"... I cannot validate authenticity though :)

No, Master Baah was with them until around summer! So goes from a 5 piece to a 4 piece! If you look at my 2 Gerrard releases, you will see in the description!

Thanks guys, great stuff, good sound. This was the four piece w/Roscoe Gee right?
@WinwoodCompletist9 жыл бұрын
In the initial months of 74, the band is a 5 piece, with Master Baah as well, however, from mid-74 onwards, the band shrinks to a 4 piece bar Master Baah. This take however is a 5 piece!
