Winx Club's darkest moments

I absolutely loved the earlier seasons of Winx Club in a way I never could with the newer ones. I couldn't really put a finger on it until I was older. But it's because of atmosphere, and character depth. The first 3 seasons in particular are very grim and have some really somber moments. So here's a compilation of all the darkest moments from Winx Club! That I could remember at least.

Regarding Number 5. Perhaps someone already mentioned that in the comments, but it's actually confirmed that the Magix city citizens remained alive and were just imprisoned this whole time. We do see them breaking free from that spell (or whatever it was), however, we only see the actual process of that happening to just ONE person on screen, and it's not animated well, or animated at all - the person just goes from the "mummified" form to the normal citizen look without any in-between frames, and poses are vastly different, so the whole process looks very stiff. That is to say, if you can even notice that, because this all is happening during the scene transition 💀 Timestamp is 14:32 (the episode from the official Winx Club KZbin channel).

They had Bloom use her healing powers so many times in season 4, Nabu's death could have been prevented. Considering when Bloom's healing powers first time appeared, Sky was literally dead for a few minutes since his heart stopped.

The dragon flame is supposed to bring back any living being. Cause dragon flame is just inspired by Phoenix Force from Marvel. Jean Grey was able to bring back people into life. Jean Grey for example brought back Emma Frost with her Phoenix force powers. Just like Bloom's dragon flame is pretty much the same as Phoenix force. Edit: those writers hated black skin characters, if not mistaken they mentioned this shit in a commentary.

Fun fact: in the comics Diaspro actually turns good, enrolling in Alfea to become a good fairy and a proper queen and accepting that Bloom is Sky’s other half. They even team up to save him.

When they found Techna I didn't like how they kinda glossed over her reunion with Timmy. They had Timmy work so hard to find her for several episodes but when they finally reunite it's just a quick shot of them hugging with everyone else. They should have reserved at least a few seconds of animation to just focus on them being back together or the others mentioning to Techna how he never gave up on her. Like you said they're the logical more awkward of the bunch, so it would have been nice to see them having a bit of a moment together

Yes they definitely did! Am I the only one who found Tecna’s “funeral scene” a bit odd? I personally found it very stiff…I know the Winx were being sincere but for me it didn’t come through. When I first watched it when I was a kid, I actually remember thinking: “Wait…are they joking? This sounds so fake. It’s like they are actively trying to make Timmy cry or something”. Idk whether it was the VAs(I was watching the RAI Dub), or whether I was still recovering from Musa’s reaction to Tecna’s death…but that didn’t seem right to me.

I actually find another moment really dark. When Miele jumps in front of Flora and takes all three blasts of the Trix right in the stomach, knocking her into the Black Willow's water. Then, when Flora dives after her, I remember crying uncontrollably when I first watched it. I was a little kid crying my eyes out.😅

I really love how they developed Riven from the lone wolf to an ideal boyfriend. He even learns to play musical instruments for Musa, tries to listen to her and the scene where he cried for Nabu really got me.

In the official site back when season one was first airing Ravin was abandoned by his mother I don't understand why they don't ever mention that in the show it explains a lot for him yet doesn't explain why musa was the same way

The first three/four seasons of Winx were incredible with what they did, showing that even a seemingly sweeter, girlier show can get real and dark. It was a big part of my childhood that sparked my imagination and passion for art. The writing was never perfect but it hurts me seeing the newer seasons and what they've done to this franchise. Thank you for putting together this list to remind us of these dark moment. I can still remember how some (to be honest most) of these impacted me as a kid watching this show.

Some other honorable mentions could be Dark Bloom in season 2 and Professor Avalon. Seriously, that whole thing was super creepy. Oh and also ghost Daphne in season 1 absolutely scared me, especially in the castle on Domino. Like she was phasing in and out of reality. It gave me soooo many nightmares.

Honestly season 2 was the creepiest and darkest season in my opinion. We had darkar who is basically this universe’s satan. We had The hallowinx episode which honestly was and sounded terrifying (especially in the french dub) we had dark bloom And the fake professor’s relationship (sometimes it looked and sounded like he was grooming her in some way which was so creepy) overall season 2 is my favorite because of how creepy it is, and its a nice step-up to season 3 with more serious dangers and transformations.

Oh that scene with Bloom and Avalon definitely reminded me of something.. else.. and throughout the whole season it definitely seemed like grooming. Honestly, I doubt that anything remotely similar would pass with today's cartoons (I mean, seriously.. just remember that Lolirock received backlash because one of the characters said "hell, yeah" in a song or something similar. In any case, it shouldn't have been that big of a deal)

Season 4 was more colorful yes but it actually was one of the most mature ones. The girls became adults in the business world and were following their dreams, Roxy acted very realistic after finding she was a fairy and was literally hunted down the entire season and had to be careful not to get KILLED, the fairies actually were killed and had their wings ripped off by the wizard. Earth fairies almost going after humans (even though they did sometimes) attacking them and probably kill them.

I wholeheartedly agree. S4 is in a really weird place though because those mature moments are juxtaposed by the Love and Pet Shop and all the high school like romance drama. It's a weird mixture of tones, but there was maturity there too!

I'm surprised you didn't mention Hallowinx from Season 2! It's a pretty creepy episode, and I remember being terrified by the faceless ghosts as a kid. And don't get me started with the shattered mirrors on the walls and the Silent Villa's curse! Even though it was all a joke in the end, the overall tone of the episode is quite dark and it's definitely one of the scariest from the whole series, along with the nightmare episode.

The creepiest and unexplained part was when right before the ending a Scarecrow figure appeared and laughed maliciously at the Fourth Wall. I think we actually saw it several frames before, being a part of the masked quests, so we assumed that it was a human in disguise. But the ending gave off pretty creepy vibes / like an actual evil creature was all along amongst the Winx and Mitzi’s guests. Also that creepy black cat, that spoke to Flora, knowing her name, and disappeared seconds after that. I was horrified! 😅

Number 3 is actually my favourite scene from season 1. As a kid I always felt this scene so much. To go in depth for a side character was so good like I never understood why they ignored his „redemption arc“ and made him the same Riven again like that scene never happened. I love Winx Club and was disappointed with Fate, this video explains why. The show could’ve highlighted any of these storylines to “make it darker” but instead they made it Riverdale with fairies - without the wings

Other dark moments for me: 1) I am italian and I don't know what Morgana says in other dubs but in the original one she clearly says that,like Nabu, a lot of fairies sacrificed their lives in the war against the Wizards of the black circle, this means that they obviously killed other people alongside with Nabu. 2) Duman. I am a fan of shape shifting powers and to me his powers were actually as dark to bring him to a sort of madness. He finally shape shifts without control and then he transformed in a horrible monster because he used them too much(and in season Witzigtz says that wild magic and shape shifting powers can control you if you aren't able to control them). Moreover in the first episode Duman said that "all that exercise made him hungry" transforming into a black wolf staring at unconscious Flora before being hit by Alice, so I can assume that he can eat human flesh if he wants.

Honestly Nabu’s death bothers me the most of all these, mainly because of HOW Layla/Aisha’s attempt to save him failed ... like some random Wizard stole _her_ gift and used it for himself out of spite AND the rest of the cast just stood there and LET IT HAPPEN??? I like to think that Nabu couldn't have been healed, because he used his energy. I can't remember how Bloom's healing works, but maybe she couldn't heal him because he didn't really have any physical wounds in or outside of his body and couldn't restore his energy. Either way, they should've said something lol

I kinda think Nabu's death was the darkest on the list. Just because it's permanent and they didn't go the easy way out and bring him back like they did with Tecna. And, although I understand how forcing Layla to live with her fear of darkness for the rest of her life is 'literally' dark, it wasn't permanent, nor was it at the cost of her life. Maybe because I'm legally blind and most media plays it out to be more of a tragedy than it actually can be. Yes it is scary to lose your vision so suddenly, but a lot of media play it as a character becoming a victim. Layla did not get that here imo, and she did have a group of loyal friends to get her through it even if she didn't get her sight back. But she was still alive and part of the group. Idk, maybe it's just me. Honestly, the darkest is Darker hovering over Bloom while she's strapped down helplessly would've been my choice for #1 if Nabu's death was #2 and Tecna's sacrifice being #3.

I totally get where you're coming from. I personally put Layla being cursed as number 1 mostly because it preyed on a childhood trauma and phobia. But you're completely right, it wasn't permanent or anything and she was able to live with it. I just loosely ordered things. It was hard ranking them from least to most dark honestly.

I honestly have to agree. His death was definitely the most impactful thing for me in the entire show. It broke my heart, and I hated it at the same time. Not only did they do that to Aisha but they brought in two new love interests for her which didn't give me the best of opinions over it. Nabu was her soul mate. She was going to marry him. Having her move on to other men just left a bad taste in my mouth even if it was somewhat of a slow burn. Nabu's death would be my #1 in this list considering how emotionally impactful it was, especially with pointing out how much it affected Riven. Seeing that man in tears for once definitely added to the weight.

To add to the list, there was also the incident with the Trix making Helia lose his memories and turning him into a frozen statue. I can't remember if it all happened in one of the movies, one of the later seasons, or both. But I feel that was pretty dark considering how much it affected Flora.

Winx was my childhood and it's kinda sad to see what it's become, the later seasons still hold a place in my heart but I would love if someone else started writing the shows and got it back to this darker and deeper plot and I desperately crave the outfits and transformations that would be created from it

I loved this video. It was such a creative Idea and you executed it so perfectly. I also love it when Winx Club gets dark because it keeps everything exciting and you really feel that the threats are serious. I think the darkest moment for me was when the Trix went to Gardenia and held Mike and Vanessa as Hostages to get Blooms power. In that moment you could just see that the trix really are evil. And all of that is so overwhelming, you can see Bloom breaking out into tears knowing full well that if she makes one mistake everything is over.

Also idk if anyone else remembers this, but after the episode where Tecna got sucked into the Omega portal 4kids put the show on hiatus and only showed reruns for a while because they got the season early iirc. So not only was it dark to see a prominent character "die", but we kinda had to wait for a pretty long time before we saw what happened next! Probably only happened to most English viewers, but still

I'm fairly certain the reason Diaspro didn't appear in the rest of the sixth season isn't solely because of bad writing, her voice actress in the Nickelodeon dub was Arianna Grande and her music career took off at the same time Season 6 was in development which can really screw up a character in a show, in the episode they recast her with the same voice actress who voiced Chimera in one of the other dubs (Chimera is another character that is a missed opportunity honestly Season 3 could have done without her being an agent of Diaspro and made the status change of her being Stella's stepsister a permanent thing and make it so Stella's arc in Season 3 relies on her accepting her new sister and step mother with her taking a blow meant for Chimera to earn her Enchantix but that's my opinion) and I don't think they liked her voice for Diaspro and so they basically relegated her character out of the show. The Bigger writing issue is Diaspro getting into the ball to begin with, unless Bloom was keeping her birth parents in the dark about Diaspro's previous attempts to ruin her life (Which are not justified if anybody should be bearing the brunt of Diaspro's vengence this it should be Sky for two timing, and honestly both Bloom and Diaspro should tan his hide for that) then she shouldn't have been allowed to set foot on the planet of Domino let alone in the royal palace with Bloom unless she had managed to come up with a VERY convincing lie that she was there to mend ties but I don't think Oritel and Marion would have been stupid enough to fall for that. So yeah her getting onto Domino unless she managed to impersonate one of the other Winx (Most likely Stella as that would be easy to sell) with an illusion spell like Darcy did with Stella in Season 1 I'm going to say her getting on Domino to begin with is flat out BS and bad writing. Well at least its better than the trainwreck that was Fate A Winx Saga- How dare you take all five of my favorite characters (The Trix, Tecna and Flora) and not have them in the show, how can you even call them the Winx without two of their core members or without having their signature enemies.

A beautifully done video. I grew up on the 4kids version so I never got to experience when Riven was being tortured by the Trix. I know I have to rewatch seasons 1-3 from the original version. This video definitely made me tear up and reminded me how winx club used to be back in the day and how it’ll probably never go back to its old glory.

What an amazing video! You covered all the moments brilliantly! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 I do miss the story and the writing in older seasons. Just like what “Inside out” taught us - there is no joy without sadness. Those moments really shocked me and made me cry as a child. Season 1 was especially sinister in many aspects - not only rainbows and sunshines like season 6 afterwards. But the shadow army of Tinkerbell in “World of Winx” and the Winx’ Nemesis creeped me out a lot - especially Banshee! The murder, which was Diaspo about to commit in season 6, shocked me, since the season was already too kiddified. Thank you also so including the part of Galatea’s wings being destroyed by Icy. This was a very cruel thing of hers. I would love to know what happens to a fairy, after she looses or her wings have been destroyed. Galatea’s reaction clearly show that she lost all willpower and point to live for a few seconds, rendering her into an empty shell. Definitely a Fairy loosing her wings is a huge breaking point, which can without any doubt cause a lot of mental and spiritual damage to a fairy. Would have loved to see how the Winx coped with that in season 6, after losing their powers to the Legendarium.

I'd love to see the loss of wings being explored more too. It was mentioned briefly in season 4 that wings grow back eventually, but it takes a very long time. The terrestrial fairies had them stolen by the Wizards of the Black Circle, which transformed peaceful Earth fairies into revenge hungry battle fairies. It'd be cool to see that side of things explored more.

Great video, very enjoyed it! I would add the moment where musa lost her voice in season 6. It prevented her from transforming, a big deal for a fairy, especially one who saves the world.. And most important, I think her voice is everything for her. It connects her to her mother (remember the show in red fountain, how important for her was to sing in there..) and after the winx couldn’t get it back first, it really broke her heart (when it happened I actually thought it was not cool of them, they of all people know how musa treasures her voice..). Although she can play an instrument, I think singing was her favorite.

I love this list. However what I think is one of the darker plotpoints in season two, one that stuck with me for a long time, was iirc in the Underground, where Stella is incredibly weakened and Brandon almost marries that princess or whoever she was. I dont remember it completely since I watched it for the last time but I remember being flabbergasted about seeing this in a kids show...

I think season 2 is actually about her moon powers? There is a lot of reflection (as the moon light is a reflection of the sun) Also I think that this is the dark side of Stella, like she shines like the sun on the outside, but inside she is a completely different person. She might have a pretty good intuition too.

Tbh I wish with the whole nabu death we could’ve seen how they all felt about the whole ordeal into more detail and see how bloom could’ve felt helpless considering she knew her healing powers wouldn’t have worked or have Tecna was traumatized from the vortex and seeing all that happen again except someone actually dying because of it

Bloom doesn't know if her parents are alive. But she doesn't give up. The rest of the winx support her When Timmy doesn't know if Tecna is alive he doesn't give up. But the other winx and specialists don't show much of an enthusiasm in finding her. Or they quick to admit she is dead. This shows t how little the winx care about Tecna's death to Bloom's parents. They would do anything for Bloom like rescuing her from Shadow Haunt. But they don't do the same for Tecna from Omega. Even when knowing she could be dead. Shouldn't stop you seeking the truth. Winx only helped because Timmy said so. When they do save Tecna only Bloom hugs Tecna which I admit is a good moment. But the other Winx don't. She deserves hug from everyone. For surviving. I feel like the pyjama party should have celebrated Tecna survival. But had no dialogue and low screen time in the event. I wish the writers putted more effort to Tecnas arc. It felt half asked.

Adding on to #1, and as seen plenty of times, just imagine being attacked while blind. *You can't see who or what is attacking you.* That makes it even more horrifying, and that is pretty traumatic considering Aisha'a upbringing.

Honestly i feel like the only reason the new remake is "dark", is because it added drugs and more intimate kissing scenes, the creatures are kind of stereotypical, so is the bloom's backstory. The og seaosn 1-3 (+ Nabu's death), had pretty dark stuff, i remember ancestral witches being super scary, and they still are tbh, also the trix with their voodoo dolls. And ye def the part with magix's half dead citizens was dark for a children's show (tbh you don't see it in shows that aren't for children a lot of times). They could've made the life action remake rlly good, but nope it's just winx riverdale, and mybe stranger things too, cuz they plan the last episode to be film long (tbh i rlly dislike that, cuz if i am watching a show then i am watching a show not a film). Also is it just me or the flore for live action, doesn't remind me of flora, i mean at least if she had flora's hair...

That's why season 1-4 were the best season's of Winx club because they weren't afraid to get dark(example:the enchantix sacrifice's and nabu's death) but I really do wish that they did more with Roxy because the show really should have ended after season 4 because it was the last good season,this is just my opinion so don't hate ok😁

So, literally noone is gonna talk about how Sky gave up so easily on Bloom on season 1 when she "turned up" to be a witch because of Trixx playing a trick on her, only to get her alone to rip off her dragon flame and still he went on givig her signs ( you can't say "no" ), and later even "dating" Bloom while he was still Diaspro's fiance, only to take Diaspro's side on Bloom vs Diaspro fight, letting Bloom down with only a "I can explain.". But later ( Season 4 specifically ) being mad and jelaous when he saw Bloom wearing a ring because he thought she was engaged to someone ( Andy ). Like, hypocrisy much?

I personally think the corpses in Season 1 is the darkest of them all. And pixie assumed to be dead in Season 2 being dead is runner up. What makes this dark is that you don't know how they died. You're guessing the darkest possible death. Nabu actually dying is 3rd darkest. The fact that Daphne put Bloom in Alfea and I assume she was turned to a ghost. This is pretty dark. So it's 4th. Musa mums death is 5th darkest. Tecna almost death in Season 3 is 6th darkest. As dark and heavily emotional it is. She does recover. I think her enchantix saved her from freezing to death. Riven getting mentally tortured is 7th. But if we're going to include this. Then we can't forget about Darkar putting Bloom on a table to torture her.

the 3rd season for me was the best strongest season for me when watching it in lockdown it kept me sane the journey all the girls took was amazing to see each one grow as people and valtor the best most threatening villain in my opinion was great and I so prefer the bloom in the older seasons she is so much more real and sensitive than I rember better than the perfect aragont leader now 😔😔😔😔 I just wish it never changed 😭😭😭😭

I've rewatched Season 3 recently, and I must say - this is a very good season indeed, with heavy stuff. Very psychological and touchy. I was a fan of Winx years ago, even an antiwinx a little bit, and now I'm in my twenties - and I've started to appreciate Seasons (1-3, maybe 4) for its messages to young girls about dealing with feelings and emotions, women's friendship, relationships with guys and so on and so forth. I agree, however, the darkest moment in Winx Club in my opinion doesn't come from the show but from a comic issue titled: Darko the Black. Which is where the titular character, Darko makes his debut. He's a comic only character that was childhood friends of the Trix. And here's a list of the thing's he's done that made the comic dark for me. - He didn't care or notice that he almost ran someone over when he was speed racing with his friends. And that someone being Stella. - He roofied Bloom's drink with a love potion that Icy gave him just so he could win a bet that he could woo Bloom by the end of the week. - After luring the lovesick Bloom away and tricking her to get into his car so they could go for a ride, he sped so fast trying to shake off Sky, who was following them that he drove his car off a cliff. - He ran away from the crime like a coward leaving both Bloom and Sky, who were hanging from the cliff to die. - Sky ended up falling into the ocean, had to be fished out, and was seriously injured with a concussion. - When Bloom was analyzed by a doctor, the love potion that Darko had gave her was called a "dangerous substance" and was warned that if she were to take it again she could die. (Aka, the Love Potion was used as a metaphor and Bloom had the chance of overdosing on it.) - His father covered up his crimes and had him lie low for the time being. - And Icy had stolen the video footage that caught Darko putting the love potion in Bloom's drink, and used it to blackmail him into dating her. I'm sure, there is more dark things that were done in the comic but these done but these are the ones that I can recite from memory.

see, in retrospect, gaining new winx forms MEANT something. Techna could have been trapped forever, and it showed that pursuing higher power meant that you REALLY had to adventure and FIND yourself. i havent seen the show in a while, but i think it peaked with the enchantix transformations

Great video. I don't think that most of these are dark tho. I would underline two: Number 5 for capturing the atmosphere of "after war". That scene was really moving and sorrowful. I love the background music too. And of course, number 7. I don't know why it isn't number 1. The nightmare scenes are amazing and actually creepy. Tecna's dream is better than the majority of horror films. Literally the best directed episode in the whole series. It's really surprising, that this incompetent rat (Ignio Straffi) could do that. After this episode and SOTLK, it looks like that he can be a good director if he wants to. He's not untalented just really lazy.

Moments like these, and MANY many others in the show, are why I'm convinced the Fate: The Winx Saga writers didn't even bother to watch the show. I mean, come on. Domino gets wiped out in a victory turned tragedy. The Earth Fairies are wiped out COMPLETELY and so long ago that most people in the Magic Dimension act like it was a disaster they couldn't have helped with. Bloom gets taken advantage of by spy for Darkar who was impersonating a teacher who claimed to have connections to her parents so she could be brainwashed and turned into Darkar's consort later. Like, he didn't just want the Dragon's Flame, but its keeper as well. _ALL_ the personal, psychological and emotional stress the girls are put under in S3 because Valtor specifically makes it that way. A little correction to Number 2 though, the Omega Portal was spiraling out of control and it would've destabilized the Magic Dimension if it stayed open, starting with the destruction of Andros because its magic would be too strong for the planet to handle. Also, the Winx going berserk and storming Cloud Tower to avenge Tecna? Personally loved everything about it. It goes horribly wrong for all of them and didn't Valtor handpick spells to trap Musa, Stella and Flora in that would kill them if Bloom didn't act on her rage fast enough? I remember this so vividly, it freaked me out the first time I saw it. Valtor was always ready to get rid of people who got in his way, and with how much he loved tormenting Bloom, I wouldn't have put it passed him to kill off even _more_ of her friends just to mess with her head. I'm still a little disappointed that this moment never gets brought up again passed "Fury" because of how much revenge acts as a central motivator for the Earth Fairies in S4. There's so much darkness in Winx Club, and a lot of other magical girl shows, but there's this dumb attitude that just because magical girl shows often carry themselves with bright colors and optimism, they never get dark or never try to. Which is honestly ridiculous to me because nearly every single magical girl show prides itself on smiling through the darkness and finding the strength to do so through love or even just the stubborn refusal to let the world beat you around. It's a way better (and more mature) sentiment than being a moody, cynical asshole because that's how the world is and if you're nice in spite of it then you're just "dumb" or "misguided."

I loved this video for me the scariest moment is when the trix sent that monster to their dorm and attack bloom after giving all of the winx nightmares or when they go to her house and try to kill her parents and beat her up. And when Darker strapped her down. Finally when the wizards trapped roxy in their circle and she was screaming and didn't understand what was happening. Wow this show was something else and I love it. It taught us how to deal with trauma and toxicity in some ways and how to support your friends and care for other people who having a hard time. Also Layla/Wish a getting thrown off of the cliff by darkar!

2 things: 1. Diaspro getting an invite for Domino's event can be as simple as the invites not having specific names, a lot of big events have invitations without official names on each invite which is how people manage to sneak in because they got the invite by someone else. 2. Flora's enchantix episode should be on this list. between the dark willow crying for eternity over the loss of its sister and Flora straight up dying until the willow witnesses how Miele lost her sister and breaks Darcy's spell crying again saving Flora is extremely deep.
