As a Black person in the U.S. who appreciates the history of many "Negro" townships in the U.S. at one time that was completely self sufficient, and according to the constitution of South Africa of self determination there can be an exclusive Black township as well. I don't think you can absolve the white British & Afrikaaner colonisers for the condition that South Africa is currently in. If all the colonisers were noble & civilised people, then the colonised in every country would be richer than the colonisers and there would have been no need for the colonised people to liberate themselves from their colonisers. What I find objectionable about this town is that the colonisers who are racially non-native and responsible for centuries of discrimination against the native races are still being allowed to perpetuate the same discrimination as they did in the past- in both cases, it is ostensibly to promote their own racial identity and culture at the expense of others. Colonialism has clearly not ended in South Africa.

I live 30 kms from Orania. This is simply NOT true. I have worked in Orania over the last couple of years, eaten in the restaurants, stayed in the resort, enjoyed the company of the local residents. They have never made me feel second rate. I am a person of colour. I used to trust WION's reports from around the globe, but this has made me think about the trust-worthiness of the reporting.

The town is on private property and is mostly off-grid. The town is built to keep their culture intact amidst a country where crime is rife and the infrastructures are collapsing due to corruption and incompetence. In contrast Orania has hardly any crime whatsoever and the town is progressing unbelievably well. Every job there is done by the inhabitants. As a white Afrikaaner even I won't really fit in there as I've lost too much of my culture while living overseas. Black people are welcome to do the same, but that's unlikely as they have many, many black townships which look like slums as no maintenance is ever done, it's a cultural thing.

I saw a KZbin special on this town a year or so ago and they seem to have a pretty good community with virtually no crime, full employment and a feeling of safety that is missing in much of the rest of the country. The focus seems to be preserving their language and culture rather than just excluding Blacks and Whites descended from English settlers. I don't think this would be legal in the US, but since it is legal in SA and they don't seem to be hurting anyone, hopefully everyone will leave them alone.

To clarify, Orania is property privately owned by a trust. Residents apply for tenure. Not being able to live on someone else's property is not a violation of rights, that is how property ownership works? As far as I know anyone is welcome to visit the town, regardless of race, religion etc.

He was taken to court when a non-Black tried to purchase a home that was listed for sale, and the courts indicated that if a property is listed for sale or for rent, it must go to a qualified buyer/renter, regardless of their race / ethnic background / religion / etc. SA is not the US, so I wasn't sure how the matter was handled there.

Over here farm workers automatically get tenure when they've worked on a farm for more than 10 years. Farm owners can also grant tenure if they so wish. The workers then get the right to stay on the farm and that right cannot be taken away until they pass away. However, they never own any of the farm, they can't build or break without getting permission from the owner, and they also can't house anyone other than themselves without permission. They have rights similar to someone renting a property. When a farmer grants tenure voluntarily, he can't be taken to task at all for his decisions on who does or doesn't get it. The property is his and he can do as he wishes. As far as I understand, Orania works on the same principle.

I mean, I can get where they are coming from. Even in India there are some tribal places who don't even allow outsiders to touch them or live there. The core belief of the founders of Orania was to do your own physical labor. Everything revolves around that belief. It even extended into the Afrikaner home. Afrikaner families would have black maids, black nannies and black gardeners. It wasn't uncommon to see black nannies walking around with little blond children. Keep in mind this is all happening with the black population exploding in numbers and blacks increasingly wanting political power. Afrikaners, in the country that they politically controlled and in their own family life, eventually became dependent on black labor That dependence on black labor in the old South Africa is what motivated the Orania founders to have the do your own work philosophy. Bringing in foreign labor to do the low skilled jobs will eventually lead to demographically losing control of your society. It was the demand to do your own labor that was one of the reasons why I think more Afrikaners haven't moved there. Especially when Orania was first founded. If someone is used to thinking of menial labor as something that other people do, then they will not be motivated to move to a place that demands they do it. That's why in America they are being flooded by illegals from Mexico, Central and South America. Many of them are hard workers and that is why they are slowly taking over. Open borders just expedites the process. Men need to be men around the world. Don't hire someone to cut your lawn or do your weeds. Do it yourself. If your in poor health then find a white teenager to do it. Whites hire Mexicans all the time for cheap labor. It will be their downfall along with not having kids. I always had this analogy ever since I was in highschool that the world is not to blame for the problem you see in it, society is. The societies people live in locally and globally are in my observation and experience, incredibly toxic. As a young kid looking at society and how it operated, I never understood why people were comfortable living under a system, that's conception and construction was never meant to benefit the general population, but only a select few. I never understood why people accepted living, growing and working in societies and systems that were remnants of barbaric practices/policies like colonialism and apartheid. I'm South African 🇿🇦... Went to that town for a job opportunity, lasted only 3 weeks. Not as nice as you think, a lot of challenges. Hard work and people sometimes a bit rude because of circumstance. Everybody struggle to make a good living. There is no crime, you could sleep with your doors unlocked. They allow any other race of background to do business there, but can't stay in the town, that's all. But for me, I'll never go back. Whites are prohibited from nearly all jobs in government and corporate SA.Learnerships , bursaries, positions in institutions, tenders , franchises all prohibited or heavily restricted from allowing white people access. Grants and subsidies (even covid relief) not accessible to white people. Having said that the caste system and discrimination in India is a lot worse in many instances. and south africa itself has BEE - Black economical empowerment and other policies where it forces a black majority work force. You as an employer have to obide by this rule regardless if you have taken the initiative and have done the effort to build a business from scratch. There are quotas for sports where a certain percentage must be black. They now even go as far as to define what is black, by excluding coloured people and people of indian decent. Your chances of getting work in SA as a white, coloured and indian person is atleast 50% less than a black person. The rainbow nation was an absolute lie. Its not what Mandela preached. We yet need to witness/see a true rainbow nation that has equal favour for all nationalities where employment needs to be based on merrit/skills/experience/education.

I am a non white south african and watching this really makes me wonder if this show is worth watching any further. There was clearly no effort put in to understand the topic but rather jumping into something that could hopefully grab headlines. How much have I watched and was therefore lied to due to sub par investigation?? Thorough investigation would have surfaced many facts. 2 of which are 1. Orania is not only for white people it is for afrikaaner people. If you are a white English person who does not practice the afrikaaner culture then you are not allowed to live there. 2. There are multiple zulu lands which are off-limits to all races including black people unless you are Zulu by culture. Multiple within KwaZulu-Natal alone. It is all about preserving culture. I would advise proper investigation before attacking a group of people and causing civil war in a country which is united.
