"The Surfaris originally wrote Wipe Out in 1963. The Ventures covered the song Wipe Out on their albums Let's Go (1963) and The Ventures on Stage (1965). I blasted Wipe Out from vinyl LP's everyday after school when I was 10 years old. Shortly thereafter it was 100% The Beatles and then The Rolling Stones.

One of the best cover versions I've heard staying true to The Surfaris recording. It's not easy to maintain that roll beat throughout the whole song and most other covers I've heard just go off into random solo bits.

In 1955 I was 15 and saw Count Basie band backing early Rock n Roll singers. At one point the entire band walked offstage, leaving just the drummer Panama Francis, who carried on for 4-5 minutes. I was never so thrilled of a drum performance until now. This had me smiling and cheering on Dodz like I did almost 70 years ago.
