Hey everyone. Throw a comment in please with your experiences with this knot, or any alternatives that you have used. Let's make this a place where Great Lakes Anglers, Pacific N/W Anglers and all anglers alike can come and share their experiences, and maybe take something away from it.

Hey Chris, do you use a backer line if so what size and how much or do you spool just straight wire on you reel? Also what pound test is the blood run 30#? Thanks once again.
@tangledtacklefishing
@tangledtacklefishing 4 жыл бұрын
You can use a mono backer to fill some of the reel. I’m pretty sure that the 30# is 30 pound test.

We’ve just started working with the weighted steel. It’s a different animal altogether when it comes to knots. I do have one that works well and I’m still perfecting it. Once we get it down we’re going to make a video for it. This is our first year running weighted steel and we’re excited to see what it offers.

Could you show how you put the wire on to the reel do you use backing
@tangledtacklefishing
@tangledtacklefishing 4 жыл бұрын
Lois Burrow depending on the reel capacity, backing may be needed or wanted. Spooling wire takes some patience and just a little skill to do it at home. One of the biggest things to remember is make sure the wire goes onto the reel the same way it comes off the bulk spool of wire. For example, most reels wind line onto the top of the reel spool. The bulk spool should be dispensing the wire from the top as well. You don’t want to add twists to the line before it gets onto the reel. There’s enough opportunity for that later. ;). Next I’ll head out on the boat and attach a diver to the end of the wire on a 3 setting and let all the wire out off the spool. I then reel the wire back in without tripping the diver. This further ensures there’s no twisting and to make sure the wire is on the spool tightly. If done in a shop they can add tension while spooling. Ultimately this prevents the wire from cutting into lower layers of wire on the spool. - Jim

Thanks for another very informative video. Why do some fisherman use braided line on their divers and others wire? How many feet of wire do you put on your deep diver reels as opposed to your shallow diver reels? Do you fish shallow divers and deep divers in the same spread, or do you simply go with the depth the fish are at? Boy I have the questions for you this week. Lol Thanks again for your patience and your instruction.
@tangledtacklefishing
@tangledtacklefishing 5 жыл бұрын
These are some great questions. We love seeing questions like these posted. Wire and braid first and foremost don’t have any stretch so your depths are more accurate and it just flat out cuts through the water better than mono. And we feel wire outperforms braid. There is some great debate on that, but that’s how we see it after many hours on the water. Some people also feel that they have to run wire on roller rods which is absolutely not true. Check out our salmon rod video for more information. We fill our reels to the maximum capacity every time no matter which reel. There are some excellent reasons to do so. Check out our salmon reel video for more information on that also. We run four divers. A low diver and a high diver on each side and we are absolutely targeting the depths where we feel the fish will be active. There is much more that goes into this, but this should give you a good starting point. Great questions. I’m looking forward to see what others add also.

@@tangledtacklefishing On Lake Ontario we have to use wire rather than braid in the summer due to the fleas. Fleas love to cling to braid and will block the rod rings, completely jamming the line. The fleas can cling to wire but it will cut right through them when you reel in. Not sure if you have the same problem on the other lakes. In any case wire is great fun because there is zero stretch and the bites really whack the rod round. For this reason a snubber like the Dreamweaver rip cord is essential between the diver and the leader to absorb the impact. I've lost too much gear when not using snubbers to ever leave them out of the rig again.

@Jim Mitteer there really isn't a length that we use day after day. Every day seems to be different so we experiment until we find the right formula. For spoons you can start with the 100 foot rule and adjust. Flasher/fly/meat rigs we keep them much tighter due to the rotation to avoid tangles. Some times as tight as 10-12 feet and others we try to scoot them back 25 plus if possible. Great question Jim. Thank you.

I have been running dipsy divers for the first time. I’m new to trolling. I am running 30lb mono. I am having trouble with my dipsy not releasing. I have adjusted it as much as I can and still does not want to release. Is this because I’m not using wire? I have tried snapping my rod hard to and still no Release. Some help would be great.
