Hi Members! I hope you love this one... I recommend you watch it before you try it on your stone, this is a tight wrap around a rectangle with pretty sharp corners. In the first 5 minutes and 27 seconds, I talk about the various things I consider when picking square and rectangular stones for wrapping. Hi Susan, thank you for the knowledge given about the depth of stones and which avenue to take with them. It was very helpful and I learned alot! Great teaching! I was wondering how you would deal with a very thin stone tho? I just got a package of beautiful ones and about 1/3 are skinnier than I've worked with.... 🤔🤔🤔

So glad you enjoyed my tutorial! Regarding your thinner stones... depends on what they are and if they are fragile or not. If they are hardy, then you could probably wrap them in similar banded fashion with smaller diameter wire... you could wrap them in prongs (short prongs)...you could probably do 'one wire' techniques on them... given I don't know the shape either... you might try one of my small stone wraps? My stone is a Tibetan turquoise, so pretty, and is oval, a bit larger than a dime.... I'll try the flipper on it! Thanks again!

I know you’ve probably addressed this previously but I can’t find it. So I’m sorry for asking. I find that I am wasting wire more than I should and my scrap wire pile is rapidly growing. Taking into consideration the stone’s shape, cut, and measurements, what factors do you use to arrive at the amount and shape of wire your piece will require? Thanks

Thanks, Pamela, sometimes, it's that I go for 'more' than what my measure might want in a copper 'prototype', then you can measure the scraps end to end per the wire size to see exactly what you used... certainly give yourself back the inch or two you might need to hold onto things, depending on your hands, etc... here are a few videos that might help... I use grid paper to measure around the traced image of my stone or stones. Each square is 1/4 inch, so you can count around the image of your stones or sketch and 'estimate' pretty closely, how much wire you might need for the design at hand. I hope this helps!
