I have building harnesses for 30 yrs, before that I used Ron Francis harnesses. I like building mine because I can add relays and power distribution blocks etc and it's just cool building stuff. I used to sell my harnesses in the 90s and 2000s, at car shows and auto events, now I build them more as a hobby for mud boggers, drag racers, pulling trucks etc, I do pretty good by word of mouth. Your video was excellent, informative and should serve as a guide for DIYers, and that's one of the greatest benefits of KZbin. Thank you for the content.

Interesting I see this comment. I’ve been looking into a Ron Francis harness for a 68 Cougar for a few years now just haven’t pulled the trigger. When you did use the Ron Francis were you satisfied with it? Chances are I will let a shop install the new harness when I get it. I would love to try myself but chances are it would take me forever 🤦🏾‍♂️

Question about what colors of wires from under hood to ignition switch in cab 1951 Ford F1 6 volt has turn signal switch push button start
@WiredCustomsSpeedShop
@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Ай бұрын
Follow the wires from the turn signal and push button, the wires could have been changed out 7 times in the last 80 years, I would hate to tell you colors and they be wrong and cause you more issues. Always follow the wires from the source and see on any wiring issue

I have a 1934 IHC 1 1/2 ton stake bed truck. I have an estimate of $2500 - $4500+ to re wire. Am I lost?! This seems outrageously high. Goodness! I can count the wires on one hand along with the things they connect to. Surely if a harness exists it couldn’t be anywhere that range for it and labor. Second option is purchase necessary wires and connect. On verge of a stroke 😳
@WiredCustomsSpeedShop
@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Ай бұрын
Hi Chuck, I usually don’t like to talk about pricing online because they are always capable of changing depending on car and electrical needs as well as supply price changes. But I’ll make an exception here. I charge $1,200 for install labor, plus the wire harness that’s usually around $435, plus any more electrical accessories. My price is around typical pricing. I also guarantee the harness for the life of the purchaser. Feel free to message me on instagram if you have more personal questions

Slick-px4pq is correct, your harness should have a 4 gauge power wire for supplied power. Some run it to the battery and some run it to the battery terminal on the starter solenoid. Which harness do you have?

@WiredCustomsSpeedShop
@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Ай бұрын
First and foremost you need to get the correct Holley Terminator XMax for the LS motor, the rest of the wires will be for simple things like turn switch/fuel pump etc. A lot of different harnesses will work for the truck side, the best brands are Painless, American Auto Wire and Haywire. You can’t go wrong with a generic 21 circuit from either one of those brands.

The biggest problem I have with most premade harnesses is they are only made for specific models. I tend to like custom cars and they are really only done right by building your own from scratch. It has to do with how simple of a build you are doing as well. I am a jeep guy which helps.

@powerband5235 I didn't have any issues. Besides a standalone harness for the engine from Bpautomotive, the chassis harness was my first wiring project. No sweat, everything pretty much laid right back in from where the original harness was. I did take out and unpin stuff I didn't need before like power windows, etc. But cannot complain, I don't see paying 800 dollars or so vs literally a hundred bucks shipped.
@phillipa7595

@powerband5235 quality wise only, painless is better, no doubt but..there were no loose connections, wire is average quality, I think it was a good purchase. I did change out the relays and fuses it came with because they were garbage.

@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop thanks man I will do that tomorrow. Keep up the strong work, you helped me wire new plug wires today, made them myself. I've never even seen a points car so this is totally new to me. Not easy to figure out the wiring when nothing is there, being foreign to cars, example I saw it has a restrictor mounted opposite of the distributor but the wires were chewed off at the voltage restrictor (regulator) so no clue how it was set up, no battery so I'm assuming it is a 12v system but restricted to 6v to the dash (going off one of your videos) but no way to confirm it. The good old fluke will be used more than ever before ha ha. I did check the omes with every wire and they were pretty consistent but is there a target reading to know the connection is solid?

I am also new to classic vehicles and dont want to sell myself short on the number of circuits. Also not looking to run power windows or seats. Basic stuff. However, I do see myself upgrading engine components which may need some new dash equipment. So my question is will a 21 Circuit be good enough or is it to much, not enough.......? Thx in advance
