Coupla questions when the cam follows something, when whatever it is, does the cam return to the original setting? Can the cam be fully out in the weather, rain hail or shine? I like that it is very fast at keeping you in view while moving around. Next, we need a cam that can see through hoodies lol. Would be cool to at least get facial features. I reckon they'll invent a way to do this in the future.

Definitely after speaking with many professionals, we are getting rid of our wireless motion, activated events, and going with continuous. There’s been a huge push by law-enforcement to have continuous because there’s been many situations where the motion event didn’t pick up for whatever the reason or didn’t last long enough. With this in mind it would be helpful to know what is the best wired device with a great app.

I like the color x f1.0 sensor feature but it would definitely need a bigger solar panel if there will be lots of ptz movement. Maybe another option is to power the atlas with a 20000mah power bank and recharge that with a bigger solar panel.

I put my order in today. I'm also working on switching my camera system to Reolink. Mostly POE and a couple wireless. I currently have a few Google Nest cameras, which I'm tired of the lack of innovation. The Nest Cam IQ was a good camera, and then they went downhill after that.

Reolink has a number of "Content Creators" of YT on its webpage for this product. I'm glad you are on the page because home security is your lane. Having general "Home Tech" people doing reviews and comparisons doesn't really help a consumer. I first subscribed when your channel was new... I appreciate you have maintained your clear and effective structure in your videos - thank you. The software in cameras and back-end processing seems to be really shifting quickly as companies seek to differentiate themselves - especially when selling the same models from an OEM. Having lived with EUFI motion activated I find it misses far too much. I think 20 sec pre-record would be better than 10 sec because it can capture what is happening that the cam can see but the sensor has not yet acted on. Continuous record - even just at low FPS and then jumping to full res and full FR on demand might even help battery cam with solar but my experience is as soon as you start getting a lot of motion events a battery just can not keep up with a small solar panel. Maybe in time the power management will be a lot leaner in how it can run a cam but for now I think hard line power is needed and still options for wifi. Run POE for those that can be wired that way and 240V (mains) power with wifi for those that can't have data wiring. By preference I'd also set up a separate wifi router with my recorder in a secure room of my home on UPS so the cameras cant be disabled by shutting down my normal wifi.

What is the weather rating on this? Will it survive 24/7 under the heat and rain or is it really meant to be installed on a somewhat protected area? If this can be installed in the open, how is the plug protected whilst using a solar panel? It looks like the rubber protector just hangs open the side providing no protection. Thanks.

@@LifeHackster Any progress on trying bigger solar panel? While you are at it, it may be worthwhile to experiment with power bank as well. The thinking is that the camera won't take more charges from larger panel once the battery is full and larger power bank will solve the issue. Reolink should allow multiple panels to be connected and charge the camera. That way, user can expand their solar power as needed for their applications.

In order to pre-record, it has to be recording all the time, draining the battery. So without a solar panel, you'll get 4 days or less before empty. With a solar panel you might be able to stretch it, but in the winter, don't count on it lasting more than 3 days. Also, SD cards are not meant to be written to 24/7, so idk if they added some internal buffer or what, but I would also assume that it's going to chew through the SD card faster than other cameras

This uses a PIR sensor for detection so technically, how it performs in daytime as to detection and notifications will be the same at night.

No IR? The low wattage white light would be covered in bugs in our forested location. Even with IR, my night alerts are 99.9% bugs, and cameras often need to be cleared of spider webs. The GO PT Plus has the ability to reduce false alarms and I never get bug or waving palm alerts as often happens with the RLC PoEs. Great review, thanks; I was waiting on yours before I bought one. Guess I wasted a buck reserving the discount 😔

what are you thoughts on the Reolink marketing saying 8 days of continuous recording, when in reality it's 4 days? I mean, saying continuous recording and then saying, oh 12 hours per day or x hours per day afterwards seems misleading and disingenous.
@LifeHackster
@LifeHackster 2 ай бұрын
I know..more of a marketing strategy. It ticks all the boxes though, they didn't mislead... that is why they didn't say 24/7 recording.... it can record continuously which is true until the battery runs out. There are people by the way that just wants scheduled recordings...like continuously at night time but not in daytime or other way around.
@da9el84
@da9el84 2 ай бұрын
@@LifeHackster The word "continuously" is the misleading part. If you look up the definition of that word: "without interruption or gaps." I wouldn't call having the camera record for any amount that is not 24 hours a day for "continuously", it makes no sense to me....
@RPGWiZaRD
@RPGWiZaRD 2 ай бұрын
@@da9el84 I think they are grammatically correct when saying "Can record contiously for 12 hrs a day", that means it records without breaks during that 12 hrs a day timeframe and that is correct. "It can record contiously" obviously would be wrong as that would mean it records all the time, all day long. Of course it can be a bit misleading but I didn't feel I was getting the wrong info but some seems to not interpret it correctly so guess it could have been worded more clearly.
@da9el84
@da9el84 2 ай бұрын
@@RPGWiZaRD Yeah, but that's not what their marketing said. It clearly stated 8 days continuous recording until I contacted them about the misleading marketing. They have now changed it to 96h continuous recording, which is much closer to being accurate :)

I was thinking, as the camera has a usb fitting for charging maybe one could use a larger solar panel - and charge controller - than the manufacturers offering to overcome battery depletion

They really need to make an optional 12Watt solar panel or some way to hook up two in parallel to solve the charging issues. You might never need to ever charge the batteries then. Especially if it is in motion sensing mode or some hybrid of that.

Great concept to have a wireless continuous recording camera. But even with a solar panel, it can't bring the charge back up to 100% after overnight usage? Kind of defeats the purpose of being able to continuous record...
@LifeHackster
@LifeHackster 2 ай бұрын
Nope. Because in daytime, it is still using its battery charge...so a 6 watt solar panel is not enough that's why a higher wattage and bigger solar panel. This is also why Reolink advertises this that it can record continuously for 12 hours for 8 days or 4 for 24 hours and not 24/7.
@r.l.8170
@r.l.8170 2 ай бұрын
@@LifeHackster Hate to say it. But the time you'll end up needing that recording, it'll be the one you didn't have on scheduled to be recorded continuously... That's one reason why it's so important to have continuos recording and for 24/7. I'll wait for a bigger solar panel or add-on that can charge this thing up properly and provide that 24/7.

@r.l.8170 You can also power it up with a USB charger if you have a plug near the camera, I have one in the spot lights and that keeps the camera fully charged.

@@JoelsterG4k I have power in multiple locations and those already have 24/7 Eufy cameras. I am planning on phasing out Eufy with Reolink since Reolink have POE and Eufy doesn't. Currently looking at Reolink's solar to phase out Eufy's solar cameras. But for now, it's mixture of Reolink, Eufy, and Blink. And also have a mixture of POE (Reolink), power near plugs (Eufy), and solar (Eufy, Reolink, and Blink).

Do not buy if you live somewhere cold. The manual warns the solar panel will not charge at 32 degrees F or colder. Now that it is cold my camera went from 100% to 32% in 12 days even though the panel gets about 7 hours of good sun each day. I even ran an extension cord to the camera and used a USB charger to try to charge the camera. The charge indicator LED stays green indicating it is fully charged but the app shows the battery at 32%. Luckily I am still in my Amazon return window so it is going back. I noticed that since I bought my camera Amazon has added a Frequently Returned Item banner to it's listing.
