Reolink has a number of "Content Creators" of YT on its webpage for this product. I'm glad you are on the page because home security is your lane. Having general "Home Tech" people doing reviews and comparisons doesn't really help a consumer. I first subscribed when your channel was new... I appreciate you have maintained your clear and effective structure in your videos - thank you. The software in cameras and back-end processing seems to be really shifting quickly as companies seek to differentiate themselves - especially when selling the same models from an OEM. Having lived with EUFI motion activated I find it misses far too much. I think 20 sec pre-record would be better than 10 sec because it can capture what is happening that the cam can see but the sensor has not yet acted on. Continuous record - even just at low FPS and then jumping to full res and full FR on demand might even help battery cam with solar but my experience is as soon as you start getting a lot of motion events a battery just can not keep up with a small solar panel. Maybe in time the power management will be a lot leaner in how it can run a cam but for now I think hard line power is needed and still options for wifi. Run POE for those that can be wired that way and 240V (mains) power with wifi for those that can't have data wiring. By preference I'd also set up a separate wifi router with my recorder in a secure room of my home on UPS so the cameras cant be disabled by shutting down my normal wifi.

In order to pre-record, it has to be recording all the time, draining the battery. So without a solar panel, you'll get 4 days or less before empty. With a solar panel you might be able to stretch it, but in the winter, don't count on it lasting more than 3 days. Great concept to have a wireless continuous recording camera. But even with a solar panel, it can't bring the charge back up to 100% after overnight usage? Kind of defeats the purpose of being able to continuous record...
@LifeHackster2 ай бұрын
Nope. Because in daytime, it is still using its battery charge...so a 6 watt solar panel is not enough that's why a higher wattage and bigger solar panel. This is also why Reolink advertises this that it can record continuously for 12 hours for 8 days or 4 for 24 hours and not 24/7.

@@LifeHackster Hate to say it. But the time you'll end up needing that recording, it'll be the one you didn't have on scheduled to be recorded continuously... That's one reason why it's so important to have continuos recording and for 24/7. I'll wait for a bigger solar panel or add-on that can charge this thing up properly and provide that 24/7.

@r.l.8170 You can also power it up with a USB charger if you have a plug near the camera, I have one in the spot lights and that keeps the camera fully charged.

@@JoelsterG4k I have power in multiple locations and those already have 24/7 Eufy cameras. I am planning on phasing out Eufy with Reolink since Reolink have POE and Eufy doesn't. Currently looking at Reolink's solar to phase out Eufy's solar cameras. But for now, it's mixture of Reolink, Eufy, and Blink. And also have a mixture of POE (Reolink), power near plugs (Eufy), and solar (Eufy, Reolink, and Blink).

It looks like it's a really good camera. Audio and picture quality are very good. It's on my short list. If and when a larger or dual solar panel set up comes around, I'm buying it. Excellent review also. Can you set this up as a POE as long as power is supplied?
@LifeHackster2 ай бұрын
No PoE on this one..but I guess if you are thinking a PoE splitter with USBC output, then yes.

Do not buy if you live somewhere cold. The manual warns the solar panel will not charge at 32 degrees F or colder. Now that it is cold my camera went from 100% to 32% in 12 days even though the panel gets about 7 hours of good sun each day. I even ran an extension cord to the camera and used a USB charger to try to charge the camera. The charge indicator LED stays green indicating it is fully charged but the app shows the battery at 32%. Luckily I am still in my Amazon return window so it is going back. I noticed that since I bought my camera Amazon has added a Frequently Returned Item banner to it's listing.

A 15% drop in battery after 24hrs with 6-8 hours of Texas sun doesn’t bode well for anyone else. Definitely not a runner for me in Ireland 🌧️ 😂

If you have cloudy and rainy days, definitely will not work but you can set it to just motion activated mode, then it will stretch the battery life.

I have reolink 512wa.. ever since the update a few days ago, i no longer get notifications 😢
@LifeHackster2 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Try deleting and adding back in the Reolink app and see if it works.

Take a look on your settings. Sometimes when the App gets a update the push for each camera is set to off.
@dawni8432 ай бұрын
@SK-df6px thank you. But unfortunately it was already on.. when i tried to turn it off, it wouldnt turn on again. Had to take it down, connect to router did the setup from the beginning 😮💨 but push notification and email notification still not working 😵💫
