I've watched this video several times to install a float switch into my rain catchment 275 gallon IBC Tote. Smoked 2 new Contactors! Still not quite sure what I did wrong. I wanted the switch to power up my Well pump to top off the Totes when we didn't have enough rain. However right now I have to go manually power the pump on about every 3 days or so. Good thing those Contactors are fairly cheap.

Thank you for the Video, i have done my reseach and found the Contactor Switch, and bought one for $20 Canadian...it is rated for 30A. Coil Volage 208/240V 50/60Hz. Open. 2 Poles. made by Sprecher+ Schuh out of Texas.

Thank you! Would both of the "out" ports at the bottom of the contactor also be hot? What if my pump and the breaker that feeds it both have ground wires. Could I tie that to some sort of terminal block? What if I wanted to use sensors that touch the water to detect the level? I saw something called GRL8 versions 1 and 2 and am wondering if that could be used and if a contactor would be needed as an intermediary as I have 10awg wire and the controller can only use up to 12awg. I want my pump to do the opposite though-- shut off when water is up and turn on when water is low.

I just purchased a property that has an old well with nothing but a galvanized pressure tank and a pressure switch missing the cover and a smashed pressure gauge. I live in OR, so I was happy to find out you guys are somewhat close. I will be giving you guys a call this week. I’m in need of a lot of equipment.

Have a part number on the contactor? My franklin box doesn't have it and I want to go from pressure to float with a holding tank.

Exactly backwards. With float down (low water level), you want it to "make" the connection allowing current to flow through the coil, pulling the contactors down to make contact, and sending power to the output side to turn the pump on.

Mr backwards wasn't listening and doesn't understand that sometimes you want a float switch to pump stuff out of a container to a certain condition and then as rain water fills up the tank. You have it pumped out again once it's full.

Hi Chris, awesome work you do for us. Kindly help me out with here, can you use one vfd to control 3 or 4 set of booster pumps, like the ones installed at the basement of high rise buildings? Will you need multiple transducers installed at the delivery header or can one be installed to feed the vfd the pressure of the delivery header?

I'm connecting a contactor switch and square D float box. Do I have to have a ground hooked up to the contactor ? Or like in the video you hook one wire to coil and then to hot. That makes it 110 right ?

Got a good one for you Chris. I have a float switch in a holding tank that goes to a contactor coil that powers the wells 220v pump. The breaker in the box that controls the contractor coil has to be switched to the off position to even work. If the power to the breaker is switched on, the contactor coil "does not" operate and the well does not fill up this holding tank. I bought the house from a flipper and now going through fixing things. Is it possible they used an incorrect contactor coil. Its just weird that the breaker need to be in the off position. Thank you

And is that a 220v float switch?

Does it matter which is l1 or l2 to the float? My contactor coil burned out after a few minutes. It's 120v coil, but aren't you putting 240v on it? The two phases may serve as a neutral but that coil is getting 240v ...

This was my question also. I see no response. It looks like he showed the wiring setup for a 208-240V contactor. I'm sitting with a 120v Eaton Contactor. Wondering if the wiring is the same, or if just pull from one leg. Ie a jumper write to pole 1. And the float switch from pole-1 also to the other side.

This setup assumes your coil voltage is the same as your incoming voltage. In our video, we had 230V incoming and a 230V coil.

Does the float switch actually carry a load into water or is it just a switch to enable power for the pump?

When you're using a contactor there is practically zero load on the float switch. That is what the contactor is for.

Just dealing with a no power at the contct that is coming back from the float switch. No voltage at the contacts for the float switch. Still on the project

That would have be followed back towards the source or power supply that feeds the line side of the contactor.
