I thought I was the only one who tried to reuse most of his wiring. What a great idea he gave us!

Man, this looks like so much fun! I'll be moving to the big city soon (I'm from Denmark). Today I have been watching your bonsai soil video and this video as inspiration for my new adventure. I will for sure see if there's any Bonsai clubs in Copenhagen! Keep up this amazing work, Nigel. I know how much inspiration and positive energy you are spreading.

This is some great info. Exactly what I was looking for before purchasing wires
@gardenerofgroovemiyagi38947 жыл бұрын
for heavey gauge wire you can straighten it perfectly by sticking one end in a cordless drill and the other end in a vice. pull tight and spin the drill a bit. the wire will be almost perfect. i actually learned that at sheet metal school for other reasons but it works perfectly for bonsai applications.

Thank Dave, I'll pass that on to the club, also very green!

Hello Nigel , I've been following your account for a while now, and I'd like to congratulate you for your work and your eagerness to share with us all your knowledge concerning to the Bonsai art. I've started a couple mulberry bonsai trees at home from seed, which were collected from the very mulberry tree of the Frida Khalo's house in Mexico city. I'd really like to do a good job on them, but I've got several questions to which I still haven´t found a proper answer on any other source. Is there any way I could contact you to inquire about these specifics? My mom and I would be so happy to accomplish some beautiful bonsai trees. Finally I'd like to thank you for introducing me to this amazing world. Cheers!

For larger gauge just cut a slightly longer piece of wire than needed and grab it at the end, using it as a lever. His demo branch had no sub branches - can you imagine how awkward using pliers would be when it had a full set of secondary branches in the way?
@TheBonsaiZone7 жыл бұрын
I think Hong was demonstrating wiring that doesn't touch the fine branches, but guides then into position.

Dear Mr. Saunders, Greetings! I am a big fan from India. Just wondering, I have never seen any tutorials you have done on wiring. Is it something you personally choose not to do with your trees?
@TheBonsaiZone7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I don't do much wiring, mostly clip and grow, here is a video on this.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3jLgp2FosZrnbM

+Nigel Saunders is it possible or even a good idea to wire a tree and also put it back into the ground at the same time to thicken its trunk?
@TheBonsaiZone8 жыл бұрын
Trees in the ground can thicken up really fast once the roots take hold. The tree will grow around the wire very quickly and could cause severe visual damage. If you keep an eye on the tree and unwire at the correct time, you can train the tree in the ground with no problems. Generally if you are going to wire a tree, a large training pot may be a better solution that the ground. A tree in the ground can grow like crazy and it may be hard to see the wire until it is too late.
