Miami also lost their 2025 #1 WR to Alabama and lost their top 2025 TE to Oregon State where he is from. Again, no complaint from Miami as student athletes are free to transfer at their will. Wisconsin's statement isn't powerful; it's immaturely aggressive and petulant... Second, it's not so much that (in their nearsighted view) Lucas's actions are inconsistent with his promise to perform, as much as it may be that their 'binding " agreement is inconsistent with the underlying flexibility built into NIL's (not to overlook, also, that unenforcable restrictions on lateral movements isn't the same thing as not being able to leave that institution (analogous to the distinction between noncompetes and telling someone they 'can't leave). And third, it is ironic: in the name of accusing Miami of committing violations (tampering), they're exposing their own violations (withholding a kid's name from the portal), and while they allude to the stremgth of their condemning information (impliedly threatening Miami of exposing it), they literally facilitate actual evidence against themselves by making that statement (acknowledging their reluctance to include Lucas's name in the portal (admissions by a party opponent isnt even an exception to hearsay; it's an exemption (it's admissible); so their position (their aresnal/ bag of weapons is comprised by boomerangs... Lastly, the optics of denying a student athlete's request of entering their name to the portal is just as problematic as standing in the way of a young man's request to be closer to his father, who's reportedly ill. Cant spell Wisconsin without a W but on this 'Lucas' matter, they're taking an L (it's kind of like a relationship, they're reluctance to accept that he wants to leave is more problematic than him leaving... Go Canes.
