Wisconsin Trout Fishing - 4/19/2024

Adam lands his first lake runner in this famous Presidents' River. A nice 22" splake. They are fairly uncommon here, but definitely a lake run fish. I picked up a 16" brown as well. 36 degrees, snow and ripping water due to recent rains all had major influences today. I was happy to get off river without a skunk, Some beaver footage here too. Happy fishing!

Looks more like a lake trout. I caught straight up lakers in the Menomonie, and believe it or not, in the Fox. We used to catch splake trout in the Oconto years ago which looked almost identical to the lake run coaster brookies minus the square tail from 20"-26". If it is a splake it got shorted most of the brook trout characteristics

Ya lots a Lakers in the Menominee. I've got a few with the bead up in the corner at the dam. And 1 on bumbs island. I bet I run into u sometime.

Just curious, since splake are technically sterile... when cleaned did that fish have sex organs? Caught one in the keewenaw that I'm pretty sure was a female based on the length of the maxilla, but had no eggs....it was November so maybe too late to see

That female splake did infact have egg sacks. The were stunted and not normal looking. My understanding of splake behavior is that do display spawn behaviors but either the eggs, sperm or both are not viable (sterile). Someone here may know more about this. Happy fishing!
