Thanks for the video. I just read The Sophist and it was surprisingly difficult, especially the discussion on being, oneness and difference. Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that the dialogue keeps doubling back on itself and the speaker and interlocuter correct previous mistakes. However, I think that it is this very property of the dialogue that actually shows philosophy in action as opposed to claiming you know everything and writing a treatise.

You're welcome! It is a challenging dialogue, in no small part since the question that lurks in all the dialogues--what is philosophy, who is the philosopher?--is made explicit here.

Jordan Peterson can just as easily be likened to a philosopher, or even Socrates. He doesn’t just speak, he thinks deeply about what he speaks about and is criticized for what he says, even accused of corrupting youth. He has a large following of young men. Challenges those in authority. You liken him to a sophist because you don’t like him. Which would liken you to one of those who contributed to Socrates sentencing. Perspective. Try it.

@@granthagen3207 All these traits you give for Jordan Peterson to liken him to Socrates are entirely superficial; none of them inherently show any virtuous traits or goals. Sophists also think deeply about what they say, but only to effectively promote their own ideas I'm sure we would both criticize Hitler's beliefs and accuse him of corrupting the youth. That doesn't make him more like Socrates. Having a large following of young men only means you appeal to a large demographic made of young men Even a child can challenge those in authority While I don't think Jordan Peterson is a complete hack, I think that a large amount of what he says deserves harsh criticism.

I would say so. The kind of "discussions" he engages in online are mainly to prove a point, not to philosophically search for the truth in an open-ended way. He also claims he is wise (publicly revealed his IQ score to much fanfare).
