Peace & Love to Andy & Alex, always! A song title as close to 'Picture Perfect' as a 'Post Card.' Though not entirely written about Syd Barrett, his 'Ghost' (both metaphysical and subsequently literal) haunts each delicate phrase to be heard herein. I'm a Syd Barrett fanatic, and when it comes to Syd's Floyd, 'sound painting' would be an ideal expression to describe his approach to musicianship. I'd say 'Arnold Layne', 'See Emily Play', Astronomy Domine' 'Matilda Mother', 'Flaming', 'Bike' or 'Jugband Blues' (to already mention way too many) best illustrate his peculiar gift for melody and wordplay during his tenure with the band that he named. Nobody wrote 'Tripped - Out' Pop like Psychedelic Syd, back when he "Shone like the sun."

The incredible thing is... when they got their wish and he (Syd Barrett) was there... when he showed up suddenly during the recording of this ...and the band didn't recognize him ...then went into complete shock and trauma and deeply troubled after they found out that the unrecognizable stranger that strolled into the studio was in fact their friend and founder...the one they were singing about!! Sometimes when we get our wish, it's not what we wanted or expected! 😮 Wish you were here....awesome!

I miss Andy on your reactions! I've been watching since he started recording in his dorm room and you used to come in and do a reaction with him sometimes! Tell him that he is missed and to hurry back when he's ready. On this Pink Floyd reaction I just had to let you know that I just saw something on this live Wish You Were Here reaction that I didn't know! As many times as I listened to this in my 79 years I didn't realize that David Gilmore had a vocal part along with his guitar solo! Maybe everyone else did but I just never caught that! Learn something new every day!

On a live show standpoint, PULSE took their stage to AS BIG AS IT GETS size. I saw “Delicate Sound Of Thunder” outside at Oakland Coliseum and Theo “ONLY” had the 60’ video screen that ROCKED MY WORLD with what it could do! Only thing I’ve seen bigger was David live in Pompeii with that same lightshow pointed at the sky around the parameter of the coliseum. This is the first song I ever completely learned on guitar, love it!!!

Pink Floyd is my forever music . . . been listening to them since I was a kid in the 1970s. I may not listen every day, but I can't imagine this music not being part of my life. Both thematically and musically, the whole album, Wish You Were Here, brings me to tears. And David Gilmour is my favorite musician of all time. There is, and never will be, anyone like him. He makes the guitar cry and his vocals are so pure and so profound. Of course, Andy & Alex would love this music. Thanks for the reaction to this masterpiece, Alex. I am so glad that you and Andy have the kind of relationship that you have. I hope you both have a lifetime of friendship and happiness.

Hauntingly beautiful. The juxtaposition within the lyrics have a back story of a founding member who lost his mind from drug abuse. This is where he is at this point and it is laid down here in the song. There is an ethereal quality to the music which alludes to floating without direction or being in a mindless, almost unconscious freefall. Each note adds emphasis to the lyrics. If you have ever felt completely lost, the music in this song transports you back to that moment and your soul aches for the subject of the song.
@chuckwaterman75778 күн бұрын
Of all their songs (and their albums, for that matter), this is my favorite, hands down. We all know how good Gilmour is on vocals and guitar, but Rick Wright's keyboards and Nick Mason's drums offer such beautifully understated support to Gilmour that everything just seems perfect.

What’s great about this song is that it’s one that means something completely different to every person who listens to it. That’s what good poetry does. Floyd have beautiful lyrics in their cannon but not many of their songs are poems. Props to Roger for these words. It’s no coincidence that one of their absolute greatest songs was completely co-written by the 2 big heads. To Andy, I hope the head space is giving you peace, and I hope you’re listening to music to soothe the soul. Music should always be a part of the medicine. All the best to you.

I was in a bar in Salzbug, Austria in 2009 with some friends while we were on vacation (we are from Texas.) There was a cover band playing a bunch of songs in the bar and nobody was paying that much attention. When this song came on half the bar started singing along then eventually the whole bar was singing along it was surreal. After that song people in the bar went back to not paying attention to the band.

I love how you interpreted the first line. Who says heaven and hell is some post-mortal experience unknowable in our current state? It can be mere perceptions of reality as transient as our current state of mind or station in life. This is what true art does, it forces you to look inward in ways that can change how everything is perceived outward. And few bands did it better than Pink Floyd. I saw them perform this live in Chicago 1988 at an indoor arena. As Dave began singing, the entire audience sang along with him. 20,000 voices singing softly along to the point he eventually just stopped singing all together and let the audience take over as he played along on the guitar. It was like a religious experience. Church. Chills.

Great reaction Alex!! It is a perfect song - S++ tier hands-down! Pink Floyd has a way of distorting time! Most of their long songs never feel like the length they are. They grab you and draw you in to...wait for it...the Dark Side Of The Moon!! I bet this hits emotionally - it does for me too! Interesting story to this song - many moons ago, I introduced PF to my mom, and she loved much of what she heard (Shine On Your Crazy Diamond was here favourite). She passed unexpectedly in 2018 (heart attack). At her cremation, after it was done, the whole family assembled in the chapel for a tearful embrace - what song literally starts as we're hugging? Wish You Were Here! As if I wasn't a mess already, I just looked to the heavens and said "MOM, REALLY?!" I have a hard time getting through this piece without getting misty eyed now. I really do wish she were here! Hope you get reunited with Andy soon! Cheers from Canada, eh!

Richard Wright usually plays the piano and organ sounds live. Jon Carin the other keyboard player usually handles all the synthesizer sounds. The person playing the 12 string is Tim Renwick. Tim actually was using David Gilmore's pedalboard from the Dark Side Of The Moon Tour. You should be here the bootleg Just Warming Up. That bootleg is the Tampa Florida soundcheck during the Division Bell tour.

Don't stay apart for very long, you two... 🩵✌️🩵 Fantastic song, when I first heard it back then, it just emphasized to me that the world was changing and there seemed to be no stopping it. It's melancholy & missing you, wishing you were here (to me) is like wishing for what used to be good that is now gone... or something good that never was and you want it so badly but it seems to be gone forever and the best you can do is hold on to the slivers you find or make along the way. 🌷

I remember the difference of the first screening reactions to the Movie " The WALL " . I was enraged and energized and my brother who was the Middle Child of our massively messed up family was CRUSHED ! I also saw a girl in front of me that was a very protected , rich type girl who exclaimed " I don't get it " and I blurted out to her " and ... you never will " ! Which sounded meaner than I meant to say it but , it was true and correct .It struck very different emotional chords in people . Still a favorite of mine ( my brother would never watch it again ) PK
