One of the last breed of the story tellers in her generation. OPM hasn't produced much of story teller, AUTHENTIC female pop stars after their generation. Nila Sarah Nina Kyla Jona. We have to protect them at all cost. Story telling isn't something you learn. It's innate and with deep connection from your experiences. It requires mental emotional intelligence. In this era where vocal beasts and vocal skills are the most in demand, we stan these story tellers and us, the audience with the heart for the stories are listening ❤ we exist and we need the artists who tell stories. Jona can be a vocal monster and unleash her 9 tails as the joke says, ANYTIME SHE IS REQUIRED TO, but she is an ARTIST and not a VOCALIST ALONE. A complete ART is supposed to tell different emotions whether you paint, you dance you sing. Different stories and not just make your audience amazed because you show off. In this case, Jona is an artist more than a show off vocalist. You can definitely recognize, unang dinig mo palang, if a voice carries soul and can tell stories from the heart or not. This is the reason why I adore the original vocal trinity. Vocal masters, but ART masters too. So far, one of the few last standing successors who hold the soul prowess, is Jona. Jona is such a great balladder. Balladeers are best suited for songs that tell a story. They're the type of singers who focus more on producing beautiful vocals and masters of phrasing to effectively touch the listeners' emotions. Balladeers sing from the heart and usually sing songs with beautiful, sweet melodies. Modern ballads (love songs) peaked and were very popular in the 80's and 90's, until R&B started gaining popularity and took over. Hence, the biggest OPM balladeers were in the 80's and 90's, like Martin Nievera, Marco Sison, Nonoy Zuniga, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Richard Reynoso, Gary V (with a touch of R&B), Ariel Rivera, and yes, our great Songbird Regine Velasquez. Jona is one of the few current singers who sings ballad so well, along with Erik Santos. Maybe because of Regine being one of their idols growing up. Her voice is perfect for ballads. I hope ballads will have a comeback in mainstream pop. It's one of the biggest reasons why music from the 80's is the best.
