Do you still have the Infinity Modulus? Do you also have the crossover box? Have you tried the Modulus with tubes?
@Baerchenization Жыл бұрын
It is not part of the speakers, but of the sub. Do not buy the box only, it needs a proprietary cable to connect to the sub and is useless without it. You have to look for the sub, box and cable as a set.

@@Baerchenization yes. That is how the entire system was intended. Even though the satellites were technically sold on their own, they were really meant to be a part of the full-range system with sub and crossover box.

@@nightdrive2646 lol.. I bought my speakers in ca 95-96 for 1400 instead of 2400 German Marks as a demo unit; I believe they asked me whether I wanted the stands as well, which did not make sense to me back then in my student bunk... then maybe some 4-5 years ago, I got a pair of stands, but passed them on to a buddy, plus the sub as well, and only since basically a few weeks ago, I have a pair of stands - ca 27 years later - and my original Modulus pair in the attic, but did not join them yet :) Not sure what to do with them... I have a 14-pieces Musical Fidelity X series I could hook them up to, but not sure which room... my main speakers are now a pair of Infinity Prelude 40, with Restek pre and power amps.

@@Baerchenization congrats on getting them at a discount. With a subwoofer (or 2) they really open up. I've had mine for over 30 years, and they still look and sound nice. The satellites are best with a crossover set to limit frequencies below 140hz. Without the original crossover, there are still a few possibilities. Parasound has a P6 preamp that has a built in crossover to limit low frequencies to the main output. JL Audio has an active crossover called the CR1 that is placed between pre and power amps. The modulus sounds best with tubes, and have been powering them with tubes for 25+ years. I recently learned that when designing the speakers, Arnie Nudell voiced them using his treasured tube amps.

@@nightdrive2646 Did you find the spec sheet? You can google it easily... there is only one cap, which you should replace after all these years, and it is only a few bucks, and they will be good as new. We are getting pissed here just now.. if you cannot find it I will post for you where to find it, i.e. name of the document.

Hey @ontherun8 - Do you mind me asking what the problems you experiences was? I have just bought me an modulus set with subwoofer and the subwoofer is not working, and I don't know what's wrong with it. Maybe your experience can help me troubleshoot?

@@vintagehifithings Dear vintagehifi, it was more than 20yrs ago now and I dont remember exactly all the details. I can just tell you that everytime the ... was the servocontrol or something related to it. The first time they replaced the complete amp board where the servo is included too.... they couldnt understand what was the reason that caused the nasty self-oscillations. The last time a couple of driver devices burnt, in this case the problem was rather easy solve. It was a pity that the sub unit was so unreliable as when working its performance were excellent, very musical and the integration with the little Modulus sats was incredible good. I just wish good luck to you and to your Modulus system. ps: one tip that I can give you is about the stock long cable from the controller (ECU) to the sub unit... shorten it and use just the lenght needed. I also advice upgrading it with a multi wire individually shielded cable. It was Gary Koh of Genesis Advanced Techs to suggest this.

@@ontherun8 Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience... Sounds like this isn't a easy fix for me :P Nothing ever is with my vintage Hifi projects 😂 But I gets lots for hours of "fun" 😂 With your description I'm now looking very much forward to get it to work and hear is for the first time.. Nice suggest with the control cable... the original didn't come with the sub, so I just bought a standart 5pin DIN cable and hope it will work 🙈

@@vintagehifithings As for the controller/sub cable... make sure it is a type with good fully shielded wires (the two that carry the audio signal must be shielded, for the other two it is less important); it is also important that there is a general shield, better if with foil and braided wire... see the diagram in the service manual that you can find at the link at the bottom. In the manual a dozen of problems are mentioned with the possible causes. Check if your problem is among these... by the way, may I ask you what problem you are having ? Did it already exist when you bought it or did it occur later ? I ask you this because if it arrived already broken then it is possible that during transport the accelerometer glued to the woofer coil just under the dust cover could have come off and this certainly caused problems for some component mounted on the main board that is screwed to the large external vertical fin of the sub. Keep me updated if you like. Just hoping you'll get to solve the problem ASAP as this system is awesome when all is working. Ciao www.manualslib.com/products/Infinity-Infinity-Modulus-3110947.html
