To everyone who says Witchers don't have two swords in the books that's just wrong, they just don't always carry around their silver sword because it's to fragile for that (Geralt at one point dosent parry a strike from a human because he dosent want his silver sword to be damaged) . Witchers just generally only carry their Witchers Razor (a super light Metroid steel sword) but every Witcher has a silver sword too as proven by the following quote: ‘You ask what I believe in, in that case. ‘I believe in the sword. ‘As you can see, I carry two. Every witcher does. It’s said, spitefully, the silver one is for monsters and the iron for humans. But that’s wrong. As there are monsters which can be struck down only with a silver blade, so there are those for whom iron is lethal. And Iola, not just any iron, it must come from a meteorite. What is a meteorite, you ask? It’s a falling star. You must have seen them - short, luminous streaks in the night. You’ve probably made a wish on one. Perhaps it was one more reason for you to believe in the gods. For me, a meteorite is nothing more than a bit of metal, primed by the sun and its fall, metal to make swords.~The last wish

There never was any Witcher code, Geralt just came up with it so he could deny easier contracts he didn't want to take, and to be respected more as a "man with rules" (he was kinda insecure about how people see him when he was younger). Also only magic or cursed monsters (werewolfs, striga etc.) were sensitive to silver. Geralt used steel sword against most of his opponents, also monsters. In the books after losing his silver sword he used mostly one, enchanted dwarven sword. But it got dumbed down in the games, so players wouldn't have to check in beastionary every monster to know which sword to use against them. Also humans are monsters yada yada yada, sure

I like the idea behind the viper school and it would have been a great addition in the game lore if given more room. Despite their name suggests they've originated to be explorers and watchers of the dimensions, before they were aquitted by the rising nilfgaardian empire to become agents in its service. I also think letho and his companions are the most intriguing witchers besides geralt, too bad they haven't had a place in the books. Letho isn't just an imperial assassin, he's still a witcher loyal to his school as are his late(st) brothers auckes and serrit. Seriously it was a missed opportunity for andrej to not include other witcher schools in the lore, the games as well as gwent did expand on that, but still I feel it came too late, especially the fact that most witcher schools are already long extinct.

Both are for monsters. No, mot because humans are monsters (I swear I'll vomit if I hear it one more time) but because only monsters of magical nature are sensitive to silver. Silver swords are fragile compared to their dwarven-forged and enchanted steel counterparts, so 90% lf the time Witchers will use the steel sword, to the point where they don't evem carry the silver one on their person unless they know they'll be facing off with something that silver can harm.

Silver sword is used only occasionally against cursed specters like vampires, werewolf's and other abominations born from dark magic (spikes on they lather jackets are also silver, to defend them from those superficially). It is more akin in design to Carolingian broad sword and mostly useless in regular combat, as silver is extremely soft. So blade of it is short, thick and dull. Which is why it for the most time it is strapped to the horse. Still the legend is nitty!

You know, as someone who had a chance to live through it, they say the trial of the grasses takes away your emotions. They say it supreses them. But look at the survival statistics... Imagine having a group of 15 people, training with them, eating with them, sleeping with them and then losing them over night. And it isn't even the strongest ones that survive... Sometimes your great great grand dad was a product of an elf and a human and your blood is not resilient enough to handle the mutagens and you end up dying. The most promising of the bunch. The one everyone looked up to etc. It's what happens to the rest that grows the survivors dead inside. And I'm not just talking during the trials. Great you've survived! Awesome job! And then two days later you find your best friend dead in a ditch because his liver gave out and his body could not adapt fast enough to the mutagens... Look it ain't all dark grey either. The wolves train as a pack... They survived cause they pitched in together and worked to survive and rebuild. They are dangerous with a sword but they truly shine when the blade is actually a jaw full of blades. The cats took up a caravan. You know why? Cause cats love to party. And partying friends are best friends. Losing those sets you on a revenge path. Be it monsters or kings. Vipers carry around knives? HAH! I've seen a Viper with a mace, just as fast and sneaky. No poison, just a loud thud... Followed by the inevetable snort of fistec. Seen a witcher that goes berserk if he drank a potion because his phisiology got screwed over on the table. And he's a grand master! Gotta give Griffins one thing... Never saw such focus to learn anywhere else... But I'll be damned if it doesn't extend to the bottom of a bottle. And Bears? That's a rowdy bunch I'll tell you that much. Seen a Bear school witcher tear appart a ghoul limb from limb with his hands. And he was playing "likes me, likes me not" Actually you know why you never see more than one bear in the same place? It's cause they meet the fuck away from everyone. Two bears are enough to punch a fiend to death so they ain't worried. They just gather around a campfire in the middle of nowhere and drink their asses off while singing loudly before continuing on next morning. And let me tell you... they can carry a lot of weight. The Bears are a family... each and every one of them would run a continent to help the other if they knew the other needed help.

Good idea. Maybe set in the time when the witcher schools are starting to diminish and be assaulted. Only three schools are canon from the books tho right? Plus, if I'm not mistaken, in the books they're never referred to as school. They're only medallions indicating the style of fighting the Witcher learned in Kaer Morhen.

kairon156 it’s actually very well done and thought out. A great example of anyone looking to write more grounded and a more realistic fantasy story.

Just because a work of fiction has something has say, magic, doesn't make it immediately unrealistic as a fantasy story-- at the end of the day, that's still what it is. I'm just referring to the way that the universe harnesses those more fantastical elements and uses them to craft a believable world grounded in its own cultures, intrigue, and politics which is in many ways still somewhat similar to our own.
@bigboydancannon43254 жыл бұрын
@@SultanOfAwesomeness there's a difference between throwing a magic spell and travelling through time and space, just as there is a difference between "realistic" and "believable"
@SultanOfAwesomeness4 жыл бұрын
Big Boy Dan Cannon If the inter-dimensional hopping is a direct result of the use of magic then no, l don’t see much of a difference between casting a spell and jumping through space, especially if it’s made to seem believable. Of course there’s a difference between both realism and believability but in many cases, the two go hand-in-hand. Sometimes making something appear more realistic and lived in also makes it more believable, and a lot of the stuff in the Witcher is just that. Magic is something of an outlier in the sense that it depends more on seeming believable, but hey it is fantasy. At the end of the day none of it is ‘realistic’ in the sense that it would happen in the real world because a fantasy world doesn’t exist. But in the sense that characters are portrayed in shades of gray or as flawed and imperfect; in the sense that politics and kingdoms function as believable entities-contributes to a larger feeling of having something tangible, grounded and representative of what a world would look like under different conditions.

Wait isn't it said that monsters have been mostly erradicated from the world and as such, no known witcher school is creating new witchers? The narrator talks about it multiple times as if new witchers were still being made.
@silverskull76692 жыл бұрын
It isn't because of that. New witchers aren't created because the recipes for the trial of the grasses went missing after a group of humans attacked Kaer Morhen eliminating the mages and the witchers who were there.
