I always thought of hyms as an allegory for severe manic depression...the dark thoughts, the self-harm, the takeover of the victim's actions and personality, the victim's feeling that they deseve pain and suffering, etc. I'm pretty sure that in the olden times, before modern medicie and psychology, this was actually what people imagined was happening to someone, who had severe depression...something similar to hyms in the witcher universe.

I think hyms supposed to be the interpretation of human depressions & regrets that eating away their souls. Take it to "medieval time" & medieval people told it like some kind of demons/supernatural beings that corrupt depressed & guilty people. Wait, does that mean the hym you fight during Gaunter O'Dimm's final "battle" isn't quite a real hym? I always found these "nightmare-ish" worlds and their enemies confusing, like the one in the painted world made by Iris. Are they projections of some sort? Or are specters somehow special in this cases.
@lucaplewka91364 жыл бұрын
Technically, theres another one in the world Gaunter O'Dimm creates at the end of hearts of stone. Interestingly, it appears to be the only enemy in there that is an actual monster, while the other enemies appear to be nothing but shadowy recreations. I dont know if that is actually the case, but if it is, it would possibly unveil something about their origins. Maybe Hyms are of similair origin as O'Dimm or are in some other tied to him, as they are described as demons.
