Von Manstein's relentless advance across the Baltic States and into northern Russia has now brought his LVI (56th) Motorized Army Corps at the very gates of Leningrad. Having already secured a bridgehead north of the Neva river and having witnessed the Red Army resupplying the city via Osinoviets, on the western shore of Lake Ladoga, the 3rd Motorized Infantry Division presses forward and captures the critical port. As the week ends, Leningrad and the remnants of the Red Army troops in Estonia are completely cut off from the rest of the Soviet Union.
