Wanna know something that makes the gyro situation even more irritating? the Switch tablet itself actually has motion sensors of its own (those of us who have spent a notable amount of time with the Labo kits/Game Builder Garage know this, certain segments of the VR Labo software straight up talks about how the Labo VR headset can still track motion without joycon attached because the tablet has motion sensors), meaning it could be possible for devs to patch in the motion to be tracked by the tablet instead of the right joycon into their games, but they just haven't.
@yonathanloekito62842 жыл бұрын
I think it’s impossible to seamlessly change between tablet gyro and controller gyro. Since the switch doesn’t know whether they’re docked or in handheld or if the controller doesn’t have gyro control, users have to tell the game everytime which gyro they want to use. It’s just going to be a bad design.

Hori wouldn't even have to do anything on their end to fix this issue, Nintendo could with a software update. The Switch's main body itself actually has an accelerometer and gyroscope built in, so it could really be used without even having the joycons attached. But that has yet to be activated in any games other than Labo titles to my knowledge. I'd really love a software update that could check against the controller and activate the consoles gyro if you have another controller besides a joycon attached. If you’re looking for handheld controllers with gyro, the NYXI joy pad controllers are a very nice alternative. I have both the Hori Split pad and the NYXI, and while I really like the Hori’s, I do prefer the NYXI. NYXI has adjustable rumble, gyro, customizable LED’s and they have their own batteries so they can be used detached from the console. They also feel more comfortable, as they have a rounder grip which allows you to curl your fingers around it. With the Hori’s, I had to rest my fingertips against the back of the switch to get a comfortable grip which resulted in the oils from my skin leaving marks on the console. What I prefer about the Hori’s though, is that the buttons and joysticks have a better spacing. The right joystick and the ABXY buttons are slightly too close together on the NYXI, so my thumb will rub against the joystick when reaching for the Y and B buttons. The + and - buttons are also a tiny bit more awkward to reach on the NYXI (at least for me, maybe people with larger hands don’t have that problem). There was also an issue with my left joystick on the NYXI, feeling quite stiff when moving to the upper right. There seemed to be something stuck there, but I opened it up, cleaned it out with some alcohol, and it felt much better. What never happened with Hori, was the controllers disconnecting midway through playing a game, which is something that did happen with the NYXI. Not sure if that’s a common or recurring problem, as it hasn’t happened again, but it’s something to keep in mind. Overall, the NYXI feel more premium and comfortable to me, and they give you a lot more features for a better price, which puts them above the Hori split pad for me. And the white ones look so classy, I’m a bit sad I ordered the black ones lol. Just my two cents, and a recommendation for people looking for joycon alternatives 😊

I have the black and gold pikachu ones and honestly I love them! I’ve got large hands so the joycons feel so tiny and fragile so this has been a brilliant purchase for me. Not too fussed about having gyro controls I don’t really use it in games anyway. To be honest my biggest issue I have is that the ABYX letters are coming off the buttons so now they’re kinda just black but it’s not exactly a major issue (unless I’ve been playing Xbox a lot because the button order throws me for a moment 🤣) but it does lower the overall look of them when there’s half an A and a bit of gold on the buttons

Sometimes I feel weird for really liking rumble as a feature. All the reviews I watched of the spilt pad Pro or that power a premium controller a while back the reviewers are allways like oh no rumble but whatever... Granted there are games where rumble is overused or used in an annoying kind of way but some subtle feelable feedback really helps with the emersion in many cases. I don't know waht a pair of motors cost but is has to be quite a bit since rumble is missing in so many third party options.

I'm in the hunt for a way to play on hanheld mode more comfortably. These were the first thing that caught my eye. But I feel the same way as you, no one puts that much focus on the rumble, but for me is very important, up to the point it's a deal breaker for me and these great looking joycons. I've seen a couple of other alternatives with rumble and gyro, but they don't seem to have the same build quality as these. If these had regular rumble and gyro they would be the perfect joycon. Definitely gonna echo a couple of comments here. But I can’t recommend the Binbok Joycons enough. The bigger ones, I know they have smaller ones as well but the bigger ones are amazing. I have both the BinBok and the Split Pad pro and the Binbok feels more like a regular controller than the split pad. The split pad is wider, but the depth isn’t enough to feel like a real controller. The binbok has more of a traditional controller grip and they are much more comfortable than the Hori. I also like that they’re most aesthetically pleasing because they line up with the screen unlike the Hori which has that controllers sticking up past the screen. But that’s just a minor grip. Binbok also has wireless and gyro.

Personally, I swear with the NYXI Joypad Controllers. They may not be officially sanctioned by Nintendo, but they work great. They're large enough for people with big hands like me, they feel great in the hand, and they have all the features the Hori joycons lack, i.e. wireless, gyro, rumble (not quite HD but close), they look good when plugged in on the switch (flush on the front) and get charged that way (they can also be charged separately with a USB-C cable), they even have the turbo feature and the mappable button on the back the HORI joycons also have, as well as their own middle part accessory to be used as a single controller. And they're dirt cheap compared to official joycons. I've used them when playing Okami HD and I swear the motion controls felt more accurate with them than with the official joycons. I'd say if the drawbacks of the HORI controllers are really a deal-breaker to you, I'd advise to try those out. They're really worth it.

I bought the hori split pad pro from Wal-Mart but returned it like a day later because apparently you can't pair buttons A/B/X/Y to the back button of the left split pad. You can only pair then to the right split pad and the same is true to the other side as well. I don't mind all the other stuff, but that was a deal breaker for me because personally I like to play fps games with a back button control and I like to jump with the left back button and slide/crouch with the right back button. If they allowed us to cross map buttons between all buttons to either split pad then I probably would have kept it. On a side note I did buy a satisfye grip for my switch too and from my personal experience it scratched my joy cons even though it had rubber in place to protect it. I seem to be a minority in this case, but it did happen and i am just letting people be aware of it.

I love my split pad pro. Not a fan of gyro in handheld, and that's my preferred style of use. Gyro with a controller on a tabletop or in tv mode, that's where i want gyro controls.

They recently released the split pad fit. Although i still think they need to release a split pad pro + modeled after the original pro's but with a couple of the much missed features such as gyro, HD rumble, and a wireless adapter for docked/TV mode. I would be sold. I play handheld with a protective clear case on my oled and it has built-in handle grips so it is fine and I don't have much discomfort or anything, but I know the handheld experience can be a little better and it boggles my mind that hori or even nintendo themselves have not come up with some kind of pro joycons..I think they'd sell like hotcakes!

Fact: The switch has gyro built into the console, but it has only ever been used for the labo VR. I have the Daemon X Machina split pad pro, I think it's great, except I the sticks are just a teeny bit too high for me and the lack of gyro. Also, the center for the split pad pro hori just released in japan only lets you use it wired and doesn't add any new features. BUT it will let you connect to your PC and use the controller there

I've had the Daeman X Machina and after 2 years it started to randomly desync. Now I have the red set. However I noticed they do have gyro as I use it for Splatoon when playing in handheld

use mine all the time and not a single scratch. but then I don't aggressively pull them off and slam them on. I find it funny that he says he baby's his oled when he is ripping them off and slamming them on.

they are great controllers. Feel really nice in the hands compared to the near crippling joycons and not having to charge them is a real bonus too. The missing features aren't features I really care for

I’ve heard hori’s stuff is really high quality but never really bought one until I saw they had a Megaman themed Split-Pad. I pre-ordered that and when it came, I played and finish Hyrule Warriors AoC because the Split-Pad is so darn good!

I got mine today. But I have one issue with them I have with the joycons. The thumb controller on the left ... that little ridge just isn't comfortable. Hear me out .. I would love for that to be a ball , like a real joystick 🕹 why is it flat and flat with a ridge ? I can't be the only one with these issues.
@pleasecallmedaviddjs12982 жыл бұрын
I have them myself and I didn’t even know that they cause scratches so I went ahead and checked out the back of my system and found a couple of myself it could be from the switch dock cause from what I’ve heard people also get scratches on there switch as well so it really isn’t our fault it’s just the way these things are designed Edit: But I really do hate seeing things like that

Bought my hori split pro when my day one switch joy cons got drift a couple of years ago and never looked back, can live without rumble and a amibo support, but the lack of gyro has meant that i have had to dock my switch and use my pro controller a couple of times to get past certain parts of games.
@AnarickTheDevil2 жыл бұрын
The game? What game? I assume you mean Zelda but just saying the game is not helpful to any one as I doubt that Pokémon requires gyro at any point.

On the topic of the scratching on the back of the OLED and not the og switch, the OLED is slightly thicker so I'm not surprised. They clearly only designed the product for the standard switch.

The only thing this needs is gyro and rumble... id deff pay 70 for them... I have the Pikachu one and I love the feel of the buttons and sticks but the lack of features makes me go back to the og joycons or the pro controller.

My biggest problem with my split pad pro is both of them wobble a little bit
@kevinr4172 жыл бұрын
I don't think most people realize this, but the body of the Switch itself has a gyro sensor built in, clearly demonstrated within the software of a number of Labo kits. Unfortunately, Nintendo has opted not to support this feature in most titles for whatever reason. I find it incredibly annoying that they went this route, because controllers like the Split Pad Pro would be a great replacement for the standard Joy-Con if Nintendo programmed games to take gyro input from the console if the controllers aren't providing any. But I suppose there's no money to be made in helping to make third party Joy-Con more of a viable option. Nintendo would really prefer that you just stick with official ones.

I totally agree. I have the older version split pros and they still work great but I want gyro also so I can used them all the time. Peace.

I went with the binbok controllers they are very similar to the hori and they have wireless they have wireless activation on the switch at this point and also motion controls. The rumble is lackluster but it has that too I just put it on the lowest setting and it's fine
